New SAT or ACT?

I took the old SAT and scored a 1820. I got a 740 in the writing portion.
…HOWEVER, I am really confused as to whether I should take the new SAT or if I’d better simply switch to the ACT.
Would this sudden change look bad for colleges?
Also, does taking the SAT look better than taking the ACT?
Which would put a better impression in case I scored high on the ACT?

They are supposed to be pretty similar, try both.

The ACT requires you to really move along. There is a real time crunch. Some students do well with that.

Take a practice ACT test and see how you do.

Is the general consensus that the New SAT is a bit easier than the ACT?

I’ve never heard of a college thinking worse of an applicant for choosing one test over the other or for taking both. I also think it is very common for applicants to take one or both tests more than once. We had a representative from the local College Board visit our school. She said that, even though it was her job to promote the SAT, in her opinion students should try both tests and then retake the one they did the best on to see if they could improve their score. I think in the case of a student who does extremely well with the first test they take, that they should probably stop there and just concentrate on their subject SATs. Sometimes a student might take one of the tests more than twice if they are trying to reach an automatic scholarship threshold. Too bad you can’t superscore an old SAT with the new, because that’s a nice writing score you got!

Yes, but if I’m going to be a senior next year, would I be able to take the SAT in October? (since it takes more time for the scores to be released in the new change…?).
Wouldn’t it be too late?

@BunnyBlue

Can you sign up for the June 4 SAT test?

i think most colleges will accept october SATs (up until november for EA and december for RD i think). However, if you take the latest test, you may not be able to see what you score and choose which test scores to send to the colleges, and they will receive that score whether you did well or poorly.
I dont think colleges have a preference between ACT and SAT
if you have taken the PSAT, that should be a good indicator of your new SAT score. I personally found the ACT to be easier than the SAT content wise, although there is more of a time crunch (2160 SAT, 34 ACT) you should take practice tests for both tests and look at conversion charts to see which one suits you better
