I would be interested to see some of the "New" SAT Scores from Candidates and what West Point is looking at for acceptance.

This would affect the Class of 2010.

Thanks

It looks like the scores for Critical Reading might be lower than the old test. It was such a long test!. My son said that he much prefered analogies.

WR was a nice high score here, CR dropped just a tad from Verbal, but dd saw her math score drop quite a bit. The test is just too long now.

Exactly, My son had a 690 on Math, and a 540 on Verbal on the old test. He said he did not do as well on the new one. He was very disappointed as he is applying now to the academies. He feels this will hurt him.

The College Board has stated that they won't be publishing percentile distributions for a year, as I recall. It will be some time before this all settles out.

WP historically didn't require the writing SATII. Has anyone heard if they are even considering the WR portion of the new SAT?

I'm so glad dd took the old SAT though lots of people laughed at us for doing so. No one knew what the new test was going to look like or how it would compare. So, College Board won't post percentiles for a year? Just what are the colleges supposed to look at? The new writing portion of the ACT is even more useless. From our experience and those of friend's, the new "essay" had NO correlation to the other portions of the test. So, what are they going to do with it? It's so unfair that these kid's choices are being determined by flawed tests.

The writing is being considered, as there is a blank for it on the Candidate Questionare. Does anyone know when the official candidate packet will come or the Medical Examination packet will be sent? My critical reading went down and my writing was horrible, but I did good in math

720 m
650 cr
570 w

...but last time I got a 650 in writing and a 660 in CR so I guess I did decent overall

RE: USNA
My son's BGO said not to worry about the writing portion. He said to take it again though in Oct and poss Nov if necessary.

Yup...I am applying for class of '10

700-m
680-cr
630-w

I pretty much blew off the writing. When i went to the WP reception around a month ago, the guy said they were focused only on math and verbal. He said that writing is only going to be glanced at. In other words, if your writing sucks (ie 400s) it can hurt or if it is great (700-800) it can help. Nothing more or less.

Michaelburt:

From your posting:

My critical reading went down and my writing was horrible, but I did "good" in math.

Somewhere in this sentence may be a clue as to why your writing score was horrible.

Just kidding. Good luck on your "journey to the academies".

eh, yeah I might need to work on that. they teach us right good in southurn VA

Yea i got a 640 V 800 M 680 W. Hopefully thats competitive for the class of 2010.

Should be--I hear that a 2100 is roughly equivalent to the old 1400, which is what the "magic number" was at my school. You know...kinda like a "30" is for the ACT for the college prepsters.

Anyways, VERY impressive score, especially math, and best wishes on your journey for admission.

Just got back from SLS. Had a really great time.

The writing isn't even being considered for the class of 2010, so don't worry if u screwed that up. They said it may be looked at if your CR score was very bad. In that case, a good writing score may help you application with the weak CR. So basically, focus on math and CR. ACT "plus writing" is also not an issue.

I got a 33 on the ACT and a 1470 on the SAT. (800 math, 670 verbal/CR). I quickly learned that these scores were very competitive for the standardized testing portion of the evaluation.

So pretty much anything over 1400 and 30 sounds good as hastellion says. Don't even worry about whether 2100=1400 or not because writing isn't being considered in most cases.

Eugene...you were my roomate

Hey buddy! Dude I'm sure you are gonna be fine with the application process. Just don't ever give up and remain dedicated to your goals. I'll do the same and hopefully I will see you again on R-day.

i kinda stumbled in here to see whats going on with the WP kids... i'll be applying to the cga for class of 2010.

Math: 720
CR: 640
WR: 650 (11/12 on essay)
total = 2010

i want to raise my math to a 770 and writing to a 700... i was stunned i broke 600 on reading.
