I was just curious as to how the applicants of the Class of 2010 did on the March 12th SAT. I myself did not do that well at all, but I'm glad I started early. Does anyone have any predictions on the new MIN's for all sections, or what scores will be the average competative scores? Thanks and congrats to all.

Hey ZN-

My March SATs got snowed out so I took them late...about a week or so ago, so I am still waiting on my results. I was also curious about the new scoring and what the competative range will be. BTW, your scores look good to me :-)

-APan

My guess will be the competitve range should be between 1900/1950ish ~ 2070ish

it's just an educated guess

This new SAT stuff confuses me. 2400? Psh, a real SAT is out of 1600 points.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but what is a competitive range?

Dd is looking at a 690M, 690V & 710Wr, Hope those are good! I would say good scores would be around 700 in each--just as before--putting a good score at a 2100. But what do I know--I'm just a mom! ;-)

competative is a nice score to the academies. At one on the USNA orientations they said that middle 600's were very cometative. I will retake, and i still have ACT's to come.
ZN

I'm not taking the SAT. My ACT score from Feb is a 26.

1780 ... failure - retake in june :-D

^^^right huge failure. Actually no.
Remember that the old sat math was a lot easier than the new sat math. I am guessing that a 650 in math on the new test is equal to around a 670-690 on the old one.

How do the SAT scores get analyzed? Are they a composite of the best of each? Also, how much weight is given to them if the applicant has extremely high grades, service, athletics?

They get a lot of weight. Worth taking multiple times. I don't know how they plan to handle the new SAT's - historically they took the best of each, it's unclear whether they'll include the writing. It would be a good question for your son to ask at NASS. (Let us know the answer).

Here is a story about kids who joined the 2400 club!

So after getting my rejection letter, I talked to my BGO for a while about how to prepare for a second go-around at the application process.

He reminded me that the SAT is used to judge how one will fare in college academics. Since I'm going to be applying as a freshman from the Univ. of Washington, he said I won't need to take it again, as my grades from there will determine what the SAT tried to do.

Anyone have any advice concerning this? I took the old SAT 3 times, ACT once...I really don't want to take another standardized test...most definitely not one that is 4 hours long either. Highest score on the old one is 1340.
