Matrix, yeah that is a strange position to be in. I do find it odd that both TCNJ and Rutgers have such strict cut-offs for merit aid, when most schools are much more flexible. I'm sure you've probably posted in somewhere else, but what do you want to do after college?

"both TCNJ and Rutgers have such strict cut-offs for merit aid"

Isn't TCNJ doing it hollistically this year? I hope they do not have an unofficial cut-off/guideline for different scholarship values. After getting my Rutgers package, I'm really worried about the TCNJ one.

You're right NJstudent, I just went and looked at TCNJs scholarship page, and they have apparently changed their policy since I applied. Sorry, didn't mean to scare you ;) However, I would warn you that while they do seem to be saying that they will take a holistic approach to evaluating scholarships, I can tell you that they are VERY interested in numbers. The school is really trying to increase in prestige, attract more faculty and increase in the rankings and in order to do this they are actively recruiting people with high numbers. Best of luck on your scholarship package, nj!

Does anyone have any idea when scholarship notifications are going out?...or did they already [hopefully, not]

i still haven't gotten a scholarship notification either. but i think they are going out on a rolling basis. anyone else want to tell us when they got theirs?

Does anyone know if TCNJ notifies merit aid applicants if they were not awarded merit aid? Also, is there a deadline by which the final notifications of scholarships are sent? Thanks

Our high school does not rank. Last year DS received his scholarship letter probably a month after his acceptance. They needed his class rank to determine the value of his offer.

I do agree with Lissa22, as of 2 years ago, a NJ student with a 1450 SAT and in the top 10% of their class, yes, 10%, received a full ride at TCNJ. I believe the same standards were true for scholarships at RU at that time as well.

Oh well, there is no living in the past!

Thanks for the info, EastCoastMom. It's been more than a month and a half after my acceptance letter, so I guess I should be hearing soon if I'm getting one.

Speaking as an out-of-state parent, I was told that the merit letters would be sent out by Apr 1. So hopefully we will get something soon.

Yeah. I called the admissions office, and they told me the same thing.

I got the aid letter about 2 weeks ago

matrixrebloated, are you in-state or out-of-state? I was asking about out-of-state, since that had a later deadline for submission than in-state. it would be nice if they had more info on their website about the out-of-state process since it implies that there is no essay, but ultimately there is.

I just got my scholarship letter too.

Have any out-of-state applicants gotten their merit award letter yet? I guess they are really sticking to their Apr 1 date.

Hey, I have a question. By the time I even realized that there was a merit scholarship application available for TCNJ.. it was like February already (TCNJ wasn't really my first choice until I visited it). But I was wondering if there are any other scholarships that TCNJ offers.. or maybe (as silly as this sounds) if it would be too late to send the application in anyways. I got my financial aid statement today from the college which is a nice amount.. but I am just wondering... lol.. thanks

I don't think TCNJ offers any scholarships unless you complete the scholarship application. Although it is a little late, I think you should complete the scholarship application. You don't have anything to loose. Maybe you can even give them a call and ask about whether they will still consider new scholarship applications.

There were a couple of references to a "free ride" with 1450 and top 5% class ranking. That "free ride" was tuition only.

The complete "free ride" of tuition and room/board was 1500 or greater and top 5% rank.
