Looking for any info on the New Spring Admission Program - thanks
Any info out there?
were you offered this too? Son’s acceptance was to this program
yes - my son was. any thoughts?
He’s decided to take the offer and do the 12 credits at the branch and then go to Storrs in Jan. I talked to admissions. The program is very new and was only offered to a small number of kids. He was accepted to CLAS in his chosen major. He was accepted at 6 other schools but this was his first choice and what he wants so he’s committed to it. We paid our deposit. What is yours thinking?
wow - almost the identical story for my son - admitted to 6 other schools but uconn top choice so he’s willing to do the one semester at branch. i heard about 100 kids were offered this program. what’s CLAS?
wow that’s funny - which branch? Mine will be going to Stamford. CLAS = College of Liberal Arts and Science. I know the lingo there a bit since I have an other son there now who is a senior.
we checked out stamford last weekend and he liked it a lot but is leaning towards waterbury based on it being closer to home and the course offerings he’s interested in when he compared the two. his letter said he was accepted into ACES which i understand is the exploratory program for undecided students. his goal is entering the business school.
yes ACES is the exploratory program. For my son’s major he has a bunch of gen ed classes to choose from for that first semester and since we are the next town over, Stamford is very close to us. He is going up to Storrs to do Husky for a Day with the band during spring break. I wonder if they will try to keep these kids together when they do their housing or if they will be sprinkled throughout the campus based on available space. Residential Life knew nothing about it but since the campus was on break this week, a lot of the staff were not there either. I’ll try and ask when I’m there next month.
i spoke with an admission officer who indicated they haven’t worked out all the details but hope to keep this group of students together as much as possible. they suggested attending husky for a day at storrs along with the branch open house for additional info. the branch orientations should be some time in July, when they meet their advisor and register for courses.
that’s good to know. I was hoping they would try to keep them together. My son wants to do marching band and will miss the first season but will catch up with the percussion line that continues into the spring semester. He’s signed up for Husky for a Day that is band specific so his day will be with a current student who is a member of the marching band. Mine is considering taking a class over the summer to get a head start. He’s also hoping his AP class will count. With my older son, he took two classes one summer because they were requirements that didn’t fit in his schedule. That is very common to have to pick up a class or two in the off season.
lol - same story on the ap classes and considering a summer class
