New Student Conferences - Parent Accomodations

Do most parents stay in the dorms or in nearby hotels?

I have friends who stayed in the dorms last summer. They had a great time and enjoyed the whole “dorm” experience. I lived in a dorm for one year when I was at A&M so I don’t mind passing on the whole dorm experience thing. We will be attending NSC with our daughter on June 15-16 and have decided to stay in a local hotel. Where ever you decide to stay, the important thing is that you and your spouse attend. Our friends said there were many informative meetings just for the parents while the student does his/her own thing. You can also go on the TAMU website and purchase a parking permit for NSC. There should be plenty of parking but it is always nice to have a permit in advance instead of using the parking garage payment kiosk each time you visit.

my experience spending the NSC in the dorm wasn’t that great… . My sheets would not stay on the twin sized plastic mattress… I didn’t get a good nights sleep, was very uncomfortable. I highly recommend the Hampton Inn on HWY6(Rudder Fwy) and Univeristy.

Thanks! I just had a friend email me that same recommendation so I will try to stay there.
