New Student Orientation: Q & A

So with less than 15 days until we freshmen begin NSO I wanted to know just what can we expect from it. Does NSO change drastically every year? If not, what are some of the activities we get to do? Do we have time to tour the campus and at least get an idea of where our classes will be? What exactly do we do?

If anyone else has any questions for current Stanford students about NSO, feel free to use this thread!

Great idea for a thread! The NSO schedule is coming out today.

My question: do people party a lot during NSO with their dorms? Or does that mainly pick up when classes start?

Oh! Will we get an email?

I’ve heard that on the first night of NSO they normally plan something really really fun. But my friend (a 2012er) refuses to tell me what it is to “ruin the surprise.” That is providing that they follow the same pattern every year anywayz.

Olive_Tree, I think that there should be organized tours of the campus for new students.

Olive, no I don’t think there’s an email but check here when it’s updated:

[NSO Calendar Overview](http://ual.stanford.edu/APSU/NSOCalendarOverview.htm)

New NSO calendar/schedule is up!

NSO does follow the same pattern every year (almost exactly, 95% or so of the time schedule remains the same from year to year).

@bluebubbles: there will be parties for all of the freshmen, and your dorm will have stuff. But Stanford is strict about no booz during NSO. However, the second NSO is over… :)

When we arrive on campus will we get a tour of our specific dorm? For example, will we learn where our bathrooms are or will students have to do that on their own when they arrive?

There are going to be a billion of student volunteers helping out with everything. they will show you around. You’ll be golden :)

There is a party on Friday. Glow stick party or something at Arillaga. Time to get your groove on. NSO is really boring though. I thought it was such a waste of time
