I rec'd a mailing recently, urging me to send D's photo and $13.50 for a first year photo directory.

Has anyone purchased this in previous years? Is it worthwhile?

Thanks.

Oh wow, that whole thing IMO is a big, big waste of money. I don't know anyone who actually ordered it (though I'm sure people do) and with facebook and the online campus phone directory (which used to have pictures when viewed from campus) I can't imagine it would be that useful.

We ordered it - and it would have been fantastic if more women had participated. I would say that about half the first year class gets listed, so it's somewhat helpful, especially if you want to see where some of your classmates come from/like to do.

A decent amount of people in my year had it, but Smith wasn't on Facebook yet. At this point, I don't really see it as necessary, but it is still a fun thing to look at!

I sent in a picture, but there was no way I was going to spend my money for a copy. (I'm in Gillettie's year, and Smith got Facebook during our orientation, so the book itself was very soon obsolete.)

I just finished up my first year and I know that I got one of those things but I have no idea where it is. 10% of those people will be gone by the time your D is out of Smith, at any rate. It's not like the booklet includes anything useful like peoples' PO boxes or phone numbers (at least not that I remember?). With the rise of facebook and the availability of info through the online directory, the photo directory is kind of obsolete. Send in a picture for those people who still buy it, but I wouldn't say that it's something essential.

Thanks all.
