I just got back a few hours ago from orientation, and I had a great time. It was certainly a long two days, but that was only because they packed a ton of stuff into them. If anyone has any additional questions about it, I took Spanish, Chem, and Math placement tests, am in Thematic Option, and am doing Pre-Med. I can help with any of those. By the way, don't worry about any of the placement tests. I didn't study for any of them and still did really well.

how well did you place in the spanish test? was it hard? moderately easy? that's pretty much all i'm worried about during orientation cuz i really wanna get out of spanish. fyi: i go next week... i'm betting that it's gonna be lots of fun!

I had a taffing awesome time too. So many cool people ...The advisors were all pretty chill, but the cough effeminate one - Ryan Rollingson - was totally unspirited and acted all elitist. Tons of fun still, though. It was just great to meet and get to know so many people so quickly. Can't wait for August!

Ryan was my OA. It sucked.

Is someone willing to volunteer to be my unofficial OA when we meet at the beginning of school? :)

Re the spanish test, I did much better than I thought I would. I took the class in ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade, and my most recent teacher in eleventh grade was absolutely horrible. I passed up to semester three without studying at all. The grammer part was what I had the most difficulty with.

"Ryan was my OA. It sucked."

Word. What's your name? I probably talked to you at least once there.

I actually went to F1. Feel free to send me an IM.

yea...spanish was ridiculously ...and kinda pathetically... easy..most people pass up to semester three without a problem.

Tim was my OA. He was nice, but kinda distant.

Math..i heard you only need to get 20 something question right out of 40 to test into calc. so it doesn't seem that bad. my friend said it was really easy.

yeah TIM OBER was my OA too.

Was the math somewhat difficult? I only took regular calc senior year so I'm a little worried. Is it mostly Calc related math questions or Algebra II/ Pre-Calc?

I'm in Thematic Option as well, and I heard you get priority in classes. Does your advisor already know this or do you have to tell everyone you are in TO to get priority.

I don't think priority is needed. However, you do have to tell them you're TO and ensure that you get registered for your TO class.

My mom's staying in the radisson, can I just stay with her rather than in dorms for orientation??

Plus, are you other TO people getting all your GE's finished frosh year while taking TO classes, or taking a course relevant to your major instead? I placed out of the natural sciences requirement but still need to take a humanities course.

Is it difficult to drop TO? I read that the TO courses still complete GE requirements. Is it the same number of courses?

Quick question: For those of you who tested out of the Spanish placement test, did your placement scores say "tested out" or something of that nature? I got my scores, and it says "spanish 3", but I'm not sure if that meant that I was placed at the 3rd level, meaning that I tested out, or that would have to be the level class that I have to take first in order to successfully fulfill the language requirement? I had meant to ask someone at orientation, but it accidentially passed my mind.

FYI: orientation was more fun than I expected it to be. You get hecka thick books and random papers, and the sessions sometimes would be kinda sleep inducing, but overall, it was lots of fun, and it really got me hyped up about attending. I wish august was here already!

I think that it is relatively easy to drop TO courses. However, there are the same amount of courses as there are for your core requirements. No idea on the spanish question. As for the Radisson one, I think you can stay with your parents, but the dorms really aren't that bad, and it is nice getting to know someone as your first roommate. Mine was great. Also, you'll be out fairly late, so you may not want to cross the street at that time alone.

Nikara, you're also a Trustee Scholar, do you know if we would be able to use exceptional funding in our first or second semester? I want to take 20 units and my parents don't want to pay 5 grand extra a year, so I was wondering if I could use some of my 8 credits freshman year. I want to start my foreign language courses freshman year otherwise I'd be scared of being "behind" even though thats a silly conception.

For the Spanish, that means that you have to take level 3 in order to meet the requirements. I placed out and my form said something along the lines of "Congratulations, you have met your foreign language requirement" and said I was eligible to take Spanish IV.

thanks. guess i better start prepping on my spanish for spring semester!

Spanish wasn't too hard so don't worry too much.
