new, updated sorority opinions wanted!

the other posts are a bit old (2005), and i was wondering if anyone, guyor girl, could give me the "run-down"

If you scroll on over a couple of pages, they do have more up to date postings. Some are very current.

I would say, though, not to necessarily listen to the stereotypes - campus has changed a lot over the last few years and definitely will with the addition of the Commons next year - changes in cross matching seem to point to that as well.

I have seen a few remarks about how the Commons will change things about Greek life at Vandy. Could someone please explain specifically what they mean. I'm especially intrigued about the last sentence in the above post.

What they mean to say is that students that an ever decreasing number of students that apply to Vanderbilt also apply to the UGAs, Bamas, W&Ls, Davidsons, and Sewanees of the world. It's a sad change but inevitable.

clearer version of what they are trying to say.

For those parents and students that are concerned about the social scene at Vanderbilt, the opening of the Freshman residential college for the class starting fall of 2008 may help incoming students bond with each other and minimize the impact of the Greek system on social life around the campus. Or it may not. It will be interesting to see the dynamics of the new residence environment. Many long term Vanderbilt people are really excited about this concept and are encouraged that it will "bring back Vanderbilt the way it used to be". I can only interpret that as a good thing from those who are in the know.

Novice07 ... in the 3.5 years since I have been at Vanderbilt, not to mention since my older siblings attended undergrad here, there has been a huge shift in the demographics of our campus population. The huge increase (4,000) in the applicant pool for next fall's incoming freshman class and the increasing number of admitted minority students and students not from the South points to this as well.

The last sentence of my previous post refers to recent changes in the chapters potential new members attend on preference night - the fourth and final night of recruitment. In the past, PNMs would traditionally pref and cross match at similar if not the same houses - for example, girls might pref at Theta, Tri Delt, and Chi O; whereas another group would at AOPi, DG, and Alpha Chi. This pattern has recently changed - in fact, this year there didn't seem to be much of a pattern at all.

I'm very much of the mindset that the traditional stereotypes don't necessarily apply to the chapters anymore. In fact, if asked, I don't think I would even be able to "rank them."
