I think I may have screwed myself over. (great way to start)
I am currently a junior (Class of 2017) which means I’ll need to take my SAT this year! (yay…)
With the implementation of the new SAT in march 2016, I’m in a dilemma with which test to take. At first I was thinking of taking only the new SAT because the old one is so soon and I’m not sure if I have enough time to prepare for the old one but after more thinking (and I have thought of this reason before, I just brushed it aside) the new SAT may end up worse for me since there is no reliable prep and its more difficult.
Basically my questions are:
- Is 3.5 months enough to prepare for the old SAT and get at least a 2200 (but I’m really aiming for a 2300+)? (I know it depends on how I am a student now but let’s say I’m coming from no prep but I’d consider myself pretty smart, i.e. APs; selective math, science, and engineering program; 4.0 gpa so far; 220 on my PSAT without any prep last year. If you need any more info to answer this question I’ll gladly answer)
- What are the benefits of taking the old SAT vs the new and which is a better choice for me given my predicament?
- If I take the old SAT, screw it up, and take the new SAT, will colleges see my old and new SAT scores or not and will they even be able to compare them considering the major differences in the tests? In the case they don’t see both scores, would it not be the smart choice to take the old SAT and then the new one if I mess up and the old one would do no harm (with exclusion to my bank account)
Thank you to anyone who can help me!

(ps: it’d be great if you can post your credential or basis on answering my questions)
