New York University - CAS and LSP

I'm applying to NYU's CAS RD to the Fall 2013 term as a below-average applicant. My test scores are above NYU's average and my GPA is about a 3.5. I've been taking AP classes since sophomore year, and have six this year, and have made 4s and 5s on every exam. I like to think my essays are good, but who can say?
Anyway. I've done my research and decided that I would not mind being in NYU's LSP. I do have some questions about the process, though. Do I have to apply specifically to LSP? So far, I plan on applying to CAS, but I feel like my chances of being accepted are, frankly, really low. If I am not accepted to CAS will I still be considered for LSP? If this question is addressed somewhere else very clearly, I'm sorry. (I should probably get sleep)
Thank you!
On the common app, I answered yes to this:
B. If, after reviewing your application, we are unable to offer you admission to the school, college, or program you have selected and we believe another school, college, or program at NYU may be a better fit based on your qualifications, would you like to be considered for admission to another school, college, or program?
This may be the answer to my question, but I wasn't sure.
