Hi, I’m a senior in high school looking to apply ED to at NYU.
Stats are the following:
GPA-4.15(Weighted)
SAT-Test optional(Most likely however I am taking the august SAT)
APs-CSA-4, Stats-4, Calc BC-5. MacroEcon-5(I have taken more AP exams however my scores were not very good. I have heard that AP scores are anyways not very important for admission and it’s more about the grade you get in AP Classes. Please correct me if Im wrong).
EC’s-Robotics Captain, MUN secretariat, Research papers, internships in data analytics, an internship with NGO, etc.
Major-Data science(offered By CAS)
Do I have a chance at ED1 NYU for data science?
What is your unweighted ?
What is your weighting based on ? .5 honors, +1 AP?
How are your ECs in regards to tenure and accomplishment…not just a list.
Do you have a chance? Sure. No one can say you don’t.
What are your odds? Need more info.
Make sure your family is on board with ED and that you can afford NYU.
As for AP, a lower score will just mean no credit if it’s avail. Your grade matters most. Some schools may say - you didn’t submit and wonder why. Others may not. No way to know.
If you want NYU, ED will be your best chance.
Just make sure you have a balanced list of schools and don’t fall in love with one.
My school doesn’t do unweighted GPAs however by looking at past trends(for my school’s class of 2021), I am top 50 out of close to 300 students. I know this isn’t very helpful however my school doesn’t really post information on class rank or unweighted GPA.
As per My ECs, I am the captain of a robotics team outside of school where I take charge of the electronics and programming part. Until now I have trained close to 13 people in this genre of robotics and we are currently preparing for a comp in 2023. I have also tutored math and physics to underprivileged kids and have interned for an extremely big NGO- where I have also made head tutor. Research wise, I am working with a PHD student and writing a research paper using statistics and econometric models. In addition, I am also taking part in MUN-have hosted confrences+made head chair for bigger conferences. I have a few more but these are the main ones I am going to talk about in my essays.
As per weighting, My school gives 0.5 weight to AP classes.
Thanks!
You can calculate your unweighted. 4 for an A. 3 for a B. The school is likely to so you need to for a chance me.
If your school doesn’t rank, then you don’t know your rank. They may give groupings - top 10% or 25%.
They just say most are ranked in top 10% but most may be 50.1%.
Will be hard to chance you without further info but apply. If they say no - then that’s why you have targets and safeties.
Just ensure you you can afford b4 I apply.
Is the Global Liberal Studies Program something one applies to separately (or indicates a preference on Common App)?
Is the perception that it is more or less competitive from an acceptance rate perspective than regular path admissions for a liberal arts major?
I had read in very old threads some mixed reviews of the program itself in terms of academic cohesiveness etc. But those are threads that seem to be a decade old.
And there’s also the Liberal Studies Core which seems to be somehow distinct from Global Liberal Studies Program. NYU pathways are confusing.
Hi, I’m trying to figure out whether to apply with my SAT scores to NYU CS. If any of you have it, could you provide me with the average SAT score so I can compare?
Hi, do you think there is an advantage to applying Early Decision for an acting BFA at Tisch? I am scheduled to take the SAT on Nov 5th after getting a 1300 on my first attempt. My GPA is 3.86 and weighted 4.4. I was thinking I needed a better SAT score so was waiting for Early Decision II. Any advice would be appreciated.
Bumping this question up because its an interesting one, but maybe you should post it in the Musical Theater group? Does a BFA ED give you an admissions advantage like it does for a BA.
Did anyone have an issue with viewing the supplementary essay for NYU on the Common App application, after submission?
Hi my daughter applied ED1 to GPH/Science (1st choice), GPH/communication disorder (2nd choice), and LS (3rd choice). I would like to know if she has a chance to get into NYU with following stats
ORM (East Asian)
Class Rank: top 6% (20/350) domestic/small private school
Gpa uw: 3.98
Gpa w: 4.09/4.18 (school doesn’t weigh much)
ACT: 33
AP: world history, chem, us history
AP taking now: gov, biology, calculus AB, physics 1, Spanish, psychology.
*** she didn’t take ap lang and ap lit which worries her it might affect her course rigor.
EC (avg)
Essay
She said her personal statement is pretty unique and unusual but the supplemental doesn’t stand out.
LORs
8/10 (from her Eng teacher)
10/10 ( hospital volunteer team director)
9/10 (counselor evaluation)
Does she have a chance? I would very appreciate your insight/comments on her chance of being admitted to her dream school. She’s being super nervous these days and hope this can ease her mind or help her move on to focus on her ED2 school
I think she has a very good chance, especially in the ED round. NYU doesn’t disclose their ED numbers but they are need aware and are protective of their yield which would work in your daughter’s favor.
She is a very strong candidate and outstanding student. Best of luck!
@eeefffggg, thank you!
Also, is NYU need aware school? I thought it’s need blind. If NYU is need aware school, isn’t it better for us to cancel the financial aid request to increase the chance because we won’t get any aid anyway.
NYU is need aware. If you need financial aid, I wouldn’t cancel the request. They are also known for being stingy when it comes to scholarships and aid.
Not sure if need blind or aware - but I believe they meet need.
@Kim5115 - you should not cancel your FAFSA. You should always file the FAFSA. If you don’t qualify for aid, it will not hurt your chances (if they are need aware). The $ figure you need could in a need aware school but if you have no need it won’t hurt. Need aware schools don’t make admission decisions simply because you filed. They look at the #s. Most, maybe even all schools, encourage everyone to file.
You should apply for numerous reasons - including access to the federally guaranteed loan. Some tie FAFSA to merit and some tie it to covid $, etc.
I just read a good article in Kiplingers - that noted all students should file FAFSA. Filing won’t hurt if you have no need and could help.
My EFC was over $100K - still filed.
Thanks for sharing!
do we know when CW invitations will be sent?
Chance me!
Went test optional, gpa: 18.77/20, 8.5 IELTS.
