Hi would love to hear from parent or student about their audition and interview experience for the music program at walnut hill. My son plays viola, will be auditioning next week. Thanks

Maybe post this on the music forum.

My daughter interviewed there for music some years ago and the music department was wonderful. But others on the music forum will have more to say.

Just moved the thread.

I don’t know much about the viola program at Walnut Hill, but the overall reputation of the school is strong, and they typically send their best students to the top schools. I wish your S well in his audition!

Violamum - my D is just went through the process and I have to tell you that they couldn’t have been nicer! The Assistant Dean of Admissions (he’s just for the Music Majors), Jake, is wonderful and is always ready to answer questions. The difference is that if you are applying for Fall admission, you will have to wait until March for an answer whereas my D applied for mid-year so we found out 4 days later (longest 4 days of my life!) I’m happy to say that she will be starting in 2 weeks and can’t wait.

The interview (at least for vocal) actually took place during the audition. It was the head of the voice department, the head of the music department and Jake who was filming it.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!

Ben Zander’s leaving may also effect Walnut Hill. This is his second questionable association at NEC prep. The first person (the YPO assistant conductor) was fired late last year for inappropriate behavior, but it was kept very quiet.
