NEC audition

Has anyone had NEC audition experienc yet this year?

At least one mom from CC there with singer child this weekend, so a report should be forthcoming.

Haven't yet gotten the full report from my son--he auditioned on Friday for guitar with my husband, then headed over to visit his brother before coming home. I was wondering if NEC notifies on a rolling basis, or if we wait now til April.

Unless things have changed in recent years, NEC notifies in April. When my son applied, NEC's acceptance was the VERY LAST one to come...it came in April (sometime at the end of the first week). I do not believe they have rolling admissions.

Thanks, thumper--I was wondering because they auditioned his instrument only on one day, so I was thinking that perhaps after seeing all the applicants for one instrument, a decision would be made. Just wishing the agony would be over quickly, but April's not that far off anyway.

If anyone else is interested, the audition was organized like clockwork, according to my husband--our son had a practice room for a good 45 minutes, there were no crowds, no theory test, just in and out in about 25 minutes, friendly personable faculty auditioning him.

Like I said...things could have changed. ALL of those auditioning on DS's instrument at NEC (I believe they had some regional auditions as well) completed their auditions the day my son did his...end of Feb. That on campus audition date was the last for his instrument. He didn't receive notification until April.

I believe the website did tell when the notifications were sent.

when was your son's audition? I auditioned just shy of noon on Friday!

He was there a little before you I think, around 11--good luck to you!

thats really funny, because I was there pretty early visiting a friend who goes there, and then I started to chat to someone who was waiting to audition (around 11). At that moment someone was inside the room auditioning and his dad was waiting outside of the room for him - I presume this must have been your husband, if he did come to the audition!

I believe notification does not come until April, to answer your question. All of the people at NEC are super nice, especially the guitar teacher Joe Morris, who was at the audition. That makes the audition more pleasant but at the same time makes you want to go there more! Yikes!

there was another guitar player with his dad there, too, though, so I don't know for sure--I didn't actually get what time my son went into the room. Reports were that Joe Morris was very nice--it does seem like a great environment for a jazz musician.

Regardless, good luck to your son. All the auditions I overheard were fabulous, so the best we can all do is keep our fingers crossed.

I had my NEC audition today. It was my first audition experience ever, and it was very much a pleasant one. I had ample warm-up time, there was no competition for practice rooms, and everyone I met was so friendly and helpful. The faculty auditioning me were just SO nice. All in all, I left with a very good impression of NEC!
