I recently came across a new summer intensive for high school students that also has a pre college summer session as well. I am not promoting this for any reason & i know nothing personally about it. my D is a MT college soph so that ship has sailed for us lol.
It’s called Broadway Evolved . It’ll come up if you google it. I know I can’t post the link. Anyway just wanted to put it out there. Looks good online. Lots of good master class faculty etc. my D knew about it as someone who founded it or is involved with it is an alumni of her sorority:)
A student of mine did it last summer and LOVED it.
My D participated in BroadwayEvolved this past summer (their inaugural year) and LOVED it!! They only offered the “summer intensive” program the summer of 2018, but have added the college track for summer 2019. My D loved Betsy Wolfe and Cynthia Rose (the founders) and felt she learned a lot about herself. It’s pricey, but we felt it was a good investment.
Amazing faculty! One of the most memorable moments was when they had a surprise guest show up and it was Sara Bareilles! They had a Q and A with her and then they all gathered around the piano with her and had a jam session. It was amazing! It was especially meaningful for my D as for her pop/rock song that she had to prepare for the intensive she chose a Sara Bareilles song that had a lot of meaning for her. So seeing Sara walk in was incredibly overwhelming for her!
My D attended this past summer as well! She absolutely loved it.
It was indeed pricey. However, as a parent I was very impressed that Betsy Wolfe didn’t just “slap her name” on this program to make some bucks. She was there every day, for the entire time, and knew each student’s name as they walked in the door the first day. She, as well as the many other artists who came and taught the students, really treated the kids like students, not just fans they were there to snap some photos with…and they really worked each student’s material, giving very helpful, constructive feedback. It was very clear to me from what I saw and what my D told me that Betsy is truly a teacher at heart, and the artists she chose as faculty were carefully selected to share her same ethos.
The list of faculty they had was almost unbelievable…I didn’t think they’d all actually show, but every single one did, and there were also several surprise guests/faculty who came as well. My D’s most “life-changing” surprise guest was Christy Altomare, who talked to the kids about her own struggles in getting cast, among other things. It was surreal because she talked to the kids at Broadway Evolved right before she went to perform in a Wednesday matinee of Anastasia, which I was actually seeing that day. I texted my D right after it was over about some of the changes in Christy’s performance since I’d seen it last a few months earlier, and my D said that Christy had actually brought them up when she talked to the kids.
And yes, @JavaJo , my D also really enjoyed Sara Bareilles and their jam session.
Yes Cynthia Rose is the woman who is the alumni of my daughter’s sorority, Delta Zeta. Apparently she works at NYU.
I agree the people posted on the website as having visited or did classes or are coming this summer is quite impressive.
Glad to hear it’s a good program!
