Next Year's Essays

Are they the same year after year?!?!?! I just want to get my applications in early and I figured I could get a head start.

ihateCA, you're one weird cookie. A year's headstart on essays?

since NYU uses common application form, so suggest you to have some ideas about some generic topics first....

duobeef-I'm applying ED so 6 months.

future--as a GSP'er and a published writer, im pretty confident in my skills as a writer. in fact i think its what got me into NYU, and if not for the program i wouldve been rejected outright. as a person who spent a great deal of time on those essays:

the essays are a chance to REALLY convey yourself. keep the restating of info thats already aprt of your app to a minimum, except if the question asks you to talkabout a past experience. the word limits are tehre for a reason. it is easy to use superfluous but pretty language--all this does is waste space. remembers your ABCs--always be concise.

if you would like any personal help (im no authority, but i am willing to give an opinion) then just private message me

LOL....Does it count against you if you use the Common Application?!?!?! IE would NYU admissions take you less seriously if you use the common app instead of the NYU app?

no. if it makes you feel better, TONS of students get in using the common app. it doesn't make a difference

I did the common appl because my gc wouldnt let me use the regular one. It worked out fine, you would probably end up writing the same essays etc. and it makes life alittle easier.

just check out the common app because usually the common app essays are always the same. you can write about an experience or a person that influenced you and some other topics. just be creative and show your personality.

i used the common app and i got into nyu with a scholarship so no big worries :) nyu's supplements are a major pain though.

what were the supplements hmkim? it might end up being easier for the OP to just do the regular nyu app

there were four supplements and each required 250 words or less. it was like why nyu; if you were an admissions officer recommending yourself to the committee, what qualities would you highlight about yourself; what do you want to study (i think); and one more which i forget. anyways i handed my nyu supplemental part the day it was due (jan. 15), and i still did fine. i'm pretty sure the nyu application and the common app+supplements are pretty similar though...

and if you want a head start, just start thinkin of potential college essay topics and write one SOON..like during the summer. so then you can just use it as ur common app essay and send out ur common app mad quickly.
