I currently attend a school where we have almost, sadly, no life in neither the National Honor Society nor the Mu Alpha Theta. We have many members, but nobody does anything. It's boring for the members, the officers have no bright ideas, and I think it destroys the purpose of the societies themselves. So, as a caring member of both societies, can any of you please tell me some of the interesting things that you have done at meetings or some of the other activities that you do to help out around the school and community? It would be great to have some suggestions to work with and possible changes we could implement to make our overall experience better. I have some ideas of my own, but I would be very interested to get some feedback from the CCers around here. Maybe (and hopefully) they will help revitalize our chapters. Thanks so much in advance!

Our MAT has a pi night thing every year.

You could set up a tutoring program at your school, or a middle or elementary school.

We already have a math tutoring program at our school, but what's a pi night? And what do you usually do at a club meeting?

My NHS club does tutoring, for mostly high school, but also middle and elementary levels.. we do lots of charity walks, which are always a lot of fun.. we have a scholarship contest, and mandatory point totals, we always do a lot of elementary school fairs... a lot of our members are really ambitious so they always come up with new stuff.

Ahhhhh

You could...
*volunteer at local food banks as a collective group, esp. during the holidays
*arrange a schedule for various tutoring labs
*create an annual ball with a local nursing home
*make easter baskets or christmas stockings for kids in the salvation army preschool, etc
*collect books or school supplies for underprivileged kids
*make or earn money to buy dolls to comfort kids w/serious illnesses in the hospitals
*school, park or community clean-ups

All you have to do is gather ideas and get in touch with hospitals, food banks and organizations like WEAVE etc to organize the projects. Hopefully, once members get a taste of how rewarding community service can be, they will be much more enthusiastic.

hm.. we invite math teachers and perhaps some popular teachers to join us. usually, there is pie eating contest, buffet for pizza and pie, pi recitation contest, and people can donate $$ and pie teacher in the face. lol.

charity volleyball tournament...good stuff

Thanks a lot guys!
