how do you get in?

GPA and hoping no teacher nixes you

Doesn't it differ for every school?

at least 15 hrs. comm service here...sigh...

like what gpa? do you have to write an essay?

Again, it depends on the school. For mine, it requires a GPA of 3.5, completion of your service hours for the year (it is mandatory to do community service at my school), an essay, and a resume.

here its a 93, no essay

depends on school, mine is an UNweighted gpa average of 3.5, 3 essays (page each, so eh), 2 recs from teachers, community service, resume, possible interview.

I've seen other schools say gpa >3, weighted, or just last semester, or whatever, so it really does differ.

GPA (here it's 3.6+), 40 hours of communitive service per year; leadership with people your own age or older, and a teacher rec.

Here, it's ridiculous. It's judged on GPA, community service, leadership roles, teacher recs, all judged by a teacher review board. I forget if essays are required, but it seems like they would be.

GPA, and volunteer hours only here... we only have to file an application that basically lists our courses, and then attach a transcript. Oh yeah and pay membership fee.

Seems like everyone gets in :/

oh yeah, we have to write essays too. It's pretty tough to get in because of the ECs/leadership, as the GPA requirement isn't very high.

3.75 here.

Everyone who fills out the app. gets in.
Gpa of 85 I think, maybe 90.
They ask for your activities and sports.

3.75 and need to be a member of 8 clubs or more by junior year (total).

I'm glad I didn't get in sorta. They now have to have attended at least 9 of the 11 NHS events and they are now sending 1/2 + the members letters that they have to meet with the board and the board may kick them out.

Yup, same here. It includes the Dean, too, which means that if you have gotten into trouble with school policies, it'll be really hard for you to get in (we have public detention lists that consist of about thirty people every week).

NHS is overrated.

Granted, I'm in it...

It looks good on college apps if you're an NHS officer though and I believe that being the president of your NHS chapter is one of the most prestigious leadership positions attainable for a high schooler.

Being an officer might be prestigious, but its a hell of a lot of work. I know our NHS co-presidents, secretaries, etc are all involved in every project NHS does, which is a lot.

Our chapter requires at least a 3.75 GPA, three teacher recommendations, and we have to fill out an application (where we list our sports, clubs, jobs, community service, etc) and write a brief essay about why we want to join.

Most people get in, though.
