I am applying for the National Honor Society, and just wondering what approach those of you in NHS took in writing your essays.

^for the club or the feel-good ceremony?

I didn't have to apply, they begged me to join.
No jk.. in my school people are asked to join.

For the club. At my school they invite you to apply, and part of that application is an essay.

jeez my school didn't have an essay. We just had to get LORs.

for my school we also have to apply. they invite a lot of students but only about 1/3 get in, and they're really strict about who gets in. i also have to write an essay, i think something about leadership? i'll probably write about one specific leadership opportunity that really affected me or others involved.

I had to write an essay and fill out an application, but 99% of the people applied got in. My essay topic was something about "what I learned from getting 90+ average" (since we needed an A to get into NHS). I wrote about always do homework... It was a really bad essay.

Ahh! I gotta write one now...

We had no essay. Just had to put activities we've done inside and outside of school and we had to have had leadership positions in all of them to get in...otherwise, you were rejected.

^Yeah, same here.

^me too (same as CrystalPhophecy and phanatic), though we only had to have one leadership position

We needed to have 30 community service hours, write an essay about that, then have a leadership postition, write an essay about that, and then you're ranked on your character by every single teacher you've ever had in high school

Had to write an essay about what we learned from earning A's.

My essay was awful and we had to explain why we would be good for NHS. Too bad NHS is a joke at our school; the valedictorian of our class didn't get in.

^ Same thing happened to me. :(

What the heck.

NHS is a joke at my school. You only need a 3.0 to join.
