So i'm looking for the nicest apartments within a close radius to ucf. Not the fake nice ones that look nice on the outside but are really scuzzy and low quality. (e.g. alafaya club the edge, jefferson village etc.)
The nicest one's I found are Grandeville on Avalon Park. They seem very nice and of decent quality. (decent construction/marble countertops painted thick walls etc.) Does anyone have any opinions or knowledge on these apartments or avalon park? Are there any places NICER that are closer or more convenient? I have yet to have much luck finding anything other than typical crappy student apartments.

If you think Jefferson is “scuzzy” on the inside, your standards for living in this stage of your life are extraordinarily high. Maybe the others like the edge and alafaya club, but I see nothing wrong with JV, its like brand new. For student housing, its well above average. Sterling is new too, and its right across the street from campus, although too expensive for me. Maybe not for you and your posh standards so check it out. Although based on the pricing of Grandeville, its probably not what your looking for either. Try the ones near waterford lakes like ashton, they’re super expensive too.

I apologize. I didn’t mean to include Jefferson village in that list. I take it you live there? They actually look quite nice for the price to me. Do you like living there? Do they assign roomates? Is it safe? I actually wouldn’t mind living there for somewhere cheaper.

ANY input on anything housing would be appreciated.

Sterling is brand new and within walking distance. They looked nice to me.

sterling apts are new and are really nice- My son is movng there in the fall

Glad to see this thread since the last “off campus apartment” thread was outdated. We (twin sons one admitted to UCF one deferred for grades) went up to look at apartments and so this is timely. Both wanted to live in the dorm, one was admitted everywhere, the other nowhere. Problem is the one who does his homework needs the brain of the geek who doesn’t when it comes to computer labs and few could live with both of them, they’re maniacs, from a mother’s perspective.

We’re looking at Valencia Direct Connect for him, but they want to live together (and need to in order to survive, neither can cook or apparently do laundry.) We looked at a 2/2 at Sterling, very nice but expensive even if it did include utilities, but neither want a car, and it needs to be close or on Lynx for Valencia.

Do all “student housing” include Valencia students? Are Valencia students allowed to join UCF clubs especially tech/CS/programming clubs? I really don’t want these two in a 4/4 because of the poor roommates who have to live with them. They appear to do nothing but play on their computers but I’m sure that will change in college.

Any help would be appreciated and yes, one gets full scholarship, the other gets Pell and Stafford Loans and his tuition’s lower so we’re hoping UCF sees fit to admit both, but if not we’re going with the Direct Connect since one is turning down UF (where another brother is) and FSU (where a sister is) and I am about tapped out on these two. Thanks.

Thanks for the recommendation of Sterling; I’m going to look them up now!

As a transfer student to UCF, I have no option but to wait on standby for dorm availability, which means I won’t know if a dorm room is available until July, possibly August! That’s cutting it pretty close to to the fall semester, and definitely not enough time to begin apartment hunting.

I looked up apartments in the UCF area in the beginning of the year, and narrowed it down to a place called Highpoint Club. A 1/1 is $747 a month, and their ratings seem to be decent enough. Rent seems a little high, but I’ll honestly pay any cost for no young children and concrete construction. Any comments on Highpoint Club would be appreciated!

Does anyone kno if Sterling accepts financial aid like student loans and that?

I think Sterling Central is a really nice place. I already signed my 12 month lease that starts in Fall 2011. It is a little pricey, but it is furnished and if you are in Phase II everything is brand new. Also, all the appliances are high efficiency so you are not likely to go over the cap on electricity and water. The price includes cable and internet so in the end it really works out. However, if you have all the money to furnish an apartment up front, you might be able to find somewhere else to live with a lower rent.

For really nice apartments…check out Victoria Place over by Waterford Lakes. It is really nice, very luxurious. It has a mixture of young working professionals, families and college students. We looked there for my daughter last year (but she ended up staying in the Towers…it is just too convenient).

Thanks for adding to this thread. We’re going up this weekend to look at apartments and I have twin sons, both freshmen, one at UCF one at Valencia and we’re looking at both 4/4 and 2/2 places. They want walking distance to UCF but on bus route for Valencia, meal plan (which I think even the Valencia students can use on UCF campus, right?) and I don’t want them to have a car.

2/2 are too pricey I think although I’m not sure about random roommates so any suggestions for this kind of setup (going to Valencia and UCF) would be great.

I will be an incoming freshman for fall 2011 and i’ve already applied for housing and paid the housing payment but I’m started to think that off campus housing might be a good option as well. I’ve looked at Sterling Central and Jefferson Village so far and they both seem very nice and not too pricey but I’m not sure if it would be smart to do off campus housing as a freshman. I have a few friends going down there but I want to meet new people as well. I would do random roommate selection either way but would I be placed with other freshman or students at all levels? Also can I still get a minimal meal plan if I live off campus? Any other suggestions for apartments would also be appreciated.

Well as it turns out we’re not moving to Orlando so the trip was a wash but Sterling Central is very nice and a great location. We were looking at 2/2s and it’s way too much, over 700 and that makes 1400 ouch which I can’t do. The circular bedrooms for the 4/4s are cool but the parking garage looked like a mess. The girl my son talked to said don’t get an apartment overlooking the pool as it’s very loud all night.

Jefferson Village has had too much crime so now they have a security gate. Both boys were very concerned about their computers (enhanced by the son who didn’t get into UCF) and were sure they’d be ripped off there. Sterling is newer, hasn’t had the problems yet. We talked to several people near Boardwalk and along Alfaya (and there was a shooting the week before at the mailboxes of one we were scheduled to look at, that got canceled) but few are actually walking distance for my not-into-exercise geeks.

As it turned out one of my boys got denied and both aren’t going now so we aren’t getting an apartment but I appreciated the input on this forum about Sterling. It is very new and filling up fast, but man the apartments are higher near UCF than in Tally or Gainesville, and not nearly as nice. Both my other kids pay 350-400 at the most. So the dorm it is.

can you tell me what you thought of Sterling. My son is a transfer student and I am interested in sterling but have to sign a lese without looking at the property. Would appreciate any feedback
thanks

To all parents, stay away from The Villages and their affiliated properties. These people used high-pressure sales tactics on my son. They pressured him to sign a “hold” on an apartment for fear they were selling out fast. They told him that his hold could be released for $250 if he decided against living there. The paperwork he actually signed was the full lease agreement, not only a hold as the leasing agent described to my wife over the phone.

When my son decided he wanted to live with some friends elsewhere, suddenly the story changed and they refused to release him saying “Your son is of legal age and he signed a lease, if he defaults, it will count against his credit rating.” Then, they asked us to co-sign for his lease! The only help they offered was to put him on a list of students wanting to sub-lease the apartment, but they would only refer other students to this list if they sold out completely (which never happened).

So we were stuck with the lease and my son lived there for a year. It was costly and he was unhappy. Please don’t make the same mistake we did and stay away from these lying, predators.

Apartmenttutor.com lists all of the apartment’s amenities including things like tanning beds, pools, fitness centers, etc. so you can see which apartments are the nicest just by comparing that and the pictures they provide.
