Sterling Apartments Across From UCF

Initially I was going to live in Nike/Hercules apartments next year as a sophomore, but I recieved and email and I think the prices got bumped from 2900 something a semester to 3025 a semester. That's 6050 a year! So my friend and I have been looking at Sterling Apartments and they seem very nice. The cheapest arrangement is 685 for a 4bedroom/4bathroom. I calculated it, and for 9 months, say August 2011 to April 2012, it'll be just a little more than Nike/Hercules would have been. I think this is a better deal, since they have more amenities and conveniences. Overall it's nicer.

Does anyone on here live there or have lived there? What do you think of it? Is it convenient? Nice? What are your thoughts?

Also is my price estimation correct?

I live at Sterling in a 1 bedroom, which is vastly different from a 4/4, but I’ve been in the 4/4 plan and it’s really nice. The bedrooms are a little bit smaller than what I’ve seen at Nike, but the overall apartment is nicer and newer. Sterling’s amenities are great. I love the gym. The office staff are pretty nice and usually helpful, unless there’s nothing they can do to fix the problem. By far the most annoying thing about living here is the other residents. People are loud in the hallways at night and on two separate occasions people have taken fire extinguishers and sprayed them all down the hallways. Lately people have been vandalizing the exit signs and emergency lights. I’m still pretty happy here though, and I’ve already renewed for next year.

I’ve never lived on campus (I transferred late and didn’t take a chance on housing), but I can imagine it’s a little less convenient to live at Sterling. But the shuttle runs frequently (we just got a BEAUTIFUL brand new bus), and if you’re used to walking you can walk to campus fairly easily. There are also lots of bike racks here, and the building wraps around the parking garage so you’re never too far from your car.

One thing to consider is electrical usage, if that’s normally covered at Nike/Hercules. There’s a cap here and sometimes people go over it. I’ve not heard of anyone exceeding it by very much though (usually a few dollars).

Unfortunately I think it will be a lot more expensive, since the leases here run for a year including the Summer (August-July).

Sterling is by far the most expensive apartment complex.

They have a real scam going. They tell you the price is $685 or $614 a month for the 4/4 but they don’t tell you that you have to start paying the 1st of the month before you move in. So you are paying for a month that you don’t live there. They just divide it by 12 months to make it look like you are paying less than other places per month. Plus they won’t do a 9 month lease. They stick you for that too. You have to sign a 12 month lease and pay even though most people go home for the summer.
