I am currently deciding between Furman and Florida State University. They couldn’t be more different but I am a Florida resident so it would be much cheaper for me to go to FSU. As you may or may not know FSU is a HUGE party school and I would consider myself a partier. I have heard different things about the nightlife at Furman but what it seems to me is that I would have to choose between am amazing education or the “college experience.” Does anyone have more information on the night life/party scene at Furman?
There is a social scene at Furman, however it does not look anything like larger schools and particularly large state schools. I think if you’re interested in the social/night life scene at FSU you would be very disappointed in the social scene at Furman.
If you want to party go to FSU. If you want to go to school and learn and get a great education and have a great career and life, go to either one. But, don’t go to Furman to party. You’ll flunk out and be back at FSU.
@suremann Your answer is bit bit harsh and judgmental. I have zero connection personally to FSU but a friend is an FSU grad. He runs a company with annual revenue approaching $1 bil. Some programs at FSU are superior to those at FU. And by the way, my friend does enjoy a good party to this day.
@TatTay561 - you ask a good quesiton and I’d encourage you to ignore the ignorant comments. My daughter toured Furman a couple weeks ago and spent the night on campus with the daughter of a family friend. Another family friend has a son at Furman. Both students said that at times FU feels a bit like HS. But Greenville is a fantastic town with much to do - yes it is not within walking distance. But the small size of Furman is also a positive.
As I mentioned in another post, there is drinking and parties on the FU campus and some drug use as well. Of course, there is a difference between a 30K student school where one can find a party or social activity every night of the week and constantly meet new people.
Some think the best place in the world to live is Manhattan while others prefer the countryside. One isn’t “best”. So good luck with your college search.
