Does anyone know to what extent observation of the night sky is practiced at LU?

Is there an observatory/telescope?

Are there local (non - LU) associations around greater Appleton that do this?

For some info, I saw this nice bit on the Lawrence website. There is a picture of a nice looking schmitt cassegrain scope.

Further info I found googling:

There apparently is a astronomy club out of UW - Menasha, a 16 min car ride from LU, that seems open to anyone.

I don’t know how active it is, but this past year there was a club that did stargazing. They brought out telescopes for the eclipse for everyone to use. I’m sorry I can’t remember the name, but I bet they’ll have a table during the fair at welcome week.

Once I saw students with a telescope outside science hall looking at the lunar eclipse. That’s all I know about star/moon gazing.
