NJ governer's School

I have heard a lot about Governer’s School of NJ… Many have said it is the way to get in to Ivy colleges… Have anyone heard that they have turned down by Governers school after being nominated by their HS?

Yup

If you get in, I’d say go. It’s certainly not a shoo in but it is prestigious and schools like Princeton know that.

Thank you… but my another question is… once you are nominated by school then can Governers school still can decline your nomonation?

Anyone , who got in to NJ Gov school for 2018?

@Thinkbigger I did. Once you’re nominated by your school, the governor’s school then decides whether or not you’re accepted to the program. There’s an acceptance rate of about 15-20% for both schools

Thank you… do you mind sharing your stats? My twins are applying for 2019.

I have a PSAT score of 1420. I had taken the SAT but decided to not submit those scores. My score is pretty good but certainly not the best (I didn’t qualify for National Merit). I think the things that really set me apart were my essays and extracurriculars. There are so many applicants that have the same high scores, so they really look for interesting people with a passion for science/engineering and have displayed that through their essays and extracurriculars

Thank you so much.

My son got in this year to the Governor’s School for Science. His friend, who was nominated for the School for Engineering, did not get in. So getting nominated by the school is not a guarantee to get in. My son had PSAT score of 1500 and a perfect GPA, but we still didn’t think it was a guarantee because there are so many kids with similar stats. Good luck to your kids.
