NJ Governor School '07

haha TASP beats nj gov school any day... hands down.

anyway, i was gonna apply to the international studies one, but i chose nj scholar instead. any else apply to that?

I haven't been on this site in a very long time since I realized I was addicted to it and that was not healthy. So now that I am done applying to Gov. School and TASP I am on here just to see what other people are up to and I must say, all of you that posted on this thread, you have made my day. I have had this stupid little wish to start a thread that became more than 5 pages long and I did it. =) THANK YOU!!

To those who appplied to both NJ Gov School as well as TASP -- did you catch any flack from your HS for doing so? Was your school supportive, or did they treat you like a trophy collector? I mean, most of you have said you'd rather go to TASP is if were a choice between the two. But if that meant you had to turn down Gov School after already getting the nomination, it could be said that you took up a nomination that another kid from your own HS might have gotten to that Gov School.

It would be really unfair of your school to give you flack, because both of these programs are sooo competitive that I would bet it is a rare occurance for someone to get into both...and since there is no guarantee that you will make it into gov school and most summer programs have to be applied for now, it would be silly not to take advantage of all the possibilities. By the time you find out whether or not you actually got into gov school, most other summer opportunities (especially free ones) will have past. Besides, if you turn down gov school, I am sure they have a waitlist they can pull from.

Well, my school didn't mind too much with me. Without an art program, chances of us getting into the program were solely based on what we did, and thus very slim. That said, High Tech, as far as I know, has never gotten a nominee past the Monmouth County level.

XD. Great.

well, i doubt i'd be in the position to actually CHOOSE tasp over governor's school, anyways. but like vango, i'm sure they have a list of alternates, and gov school for the arts is extremely competitive so it's not like they can tell you to restrain from applying for any other programs.

yea, gov school does have a waiting list

Taggart: But what if you had chosen, say, engineering or science, which High Tech always seems to send students to?

Well, I don't think there'd be that problem -- science kids usually don't apply for TASP in light of the essays. However, that aside, I doubt High Tech would've protested all too much unless the kid made it known he/she was applying to both. Our guidance office seems really nice about it, and don't care. But prior to applying for Gov School, my principle came in to give us all a talk about how if we were accepted by Gov school, we -had- to go. I'm sure we don't -have to- per se, but he wouldn't like it.

-sob- My research-crazy friend didn't get nominated by the school. Internally, it's all very competitive in the sciences. I'm pretty sure the guy we nominated hasn't applied to anything else.

I'm a finalist for Public Issues. I'm shocked I even got this far.

I wonder how many finalists there are and how many kids actually applied..?

i dunno...but is union county just reallllly late or sumthin? o well...

Just 2 questions
1) For all of you that got accepted, how did you get informed that you were?
2) If you don't get accepted is there a rejection letter, or is it just that after a couple of weeks, you know you didn't get in.
Thanks

i havent gotten anything yet and its already 1/31..is this normal

I received my letter of acceptance [as a finalist] on Saturday, the 27th. I'm from Monmouth County, so my letter came from Freehold. I'm sure each county office didn't send them at the same time.

I have no clue whether or not there are letters of rejection.

^ Haha. Watch, you probably know a couple of people I know.

uh......union county? anyone hear anything?

ugh, so frustrated about the lateness. My friend from my HS who applied to the sciences school heard back nearly 2 weeks ago. I haven't heard back yet; neither has anyone else at my HS (other than the 2 kids that applied to the science school).

Has anyone from Middlesex County heard back about going on to the next round in the Arts? Specifically filmmaking?

I'm from Middlesex County and I applied to International Studies. I have yet to hear. Did any one from Middlesex hear in general?

I'm from Bergen County, and I have been accepted today to continue on to the next round in Engineering and Technology.

Hoping for the best in the next round :T
