NJ Governors School 2010

Anyone applying? I heard this year is only sciences, environmental, and engineering since they took out public issues and international studies.

omg! really?? i checked the site recently and its still up! i wanted to apply for public issues.

ohh you were right. lol

Have schools started nominating people yet?

yep, but unfortunately i was one of those people who wanted to apply for public issues or international studies.

me too, metalfox! :frowning: i reallyyy wanted to apply for public issues.
indifferent, my school’s been working on the nomination process too.

I was nomiated this year for the Science School (to my surprise). Honestly, I think I have NO chance of getting in. I spent the last two years in the hospital, so my transcript pretty much sucks. Plus, I actually consider science to be my worst subject, my chem teacher just thinks I love it.

Anyway, here are my stats…
School: Roxbury High School
Rank: 40/418? Idk exactly, but it sucks. (Not my fault. My doctors only allowed 10hrs of schoolwork a week for frosh and soph year)
SATS: 2330
Relevant ECs: Science League for Chemistry, Math Team Tests
Irrelevant ECs: Girl Scout w/ several awards, Winner of National Novel Writing Month, Tutor at the middle school, member of the Honors Academic Decathalon Team, Member of Junior States of America, CCD aide at church, “Nerdfighter”, PLUS about 20 semi-relevant ECs from Middle School (plus a few awards)
Recs: Chem Teacher and Precalc teacher. They’re the only hs math and science teachers I’ve had, so I didn’t really have a choice. Hopefully they’re decent.
Essays: Reasonable. My only worry is that they are too personal. Not sure if the mild hospital pity card is too much.
Autobio focused on how missing h.s. because of hospitalizations sucked but taught me alot about medical science. Scientific Discovery essay on neurofeedback/neurobiology and its use as treatment for depression/autism/psychiatric disorders.

I’ll post when I get rejected  Good luck to everyone with a chance :)

I didn’t get in. Didn’t expect to.

are you planning to do anything else during the summer?

I’m working at the Celebrate the Children summer camp for children with autism and I’m probably going to take online courses at county college. Plus maybe I’ll try having friends…
