woohoo i got in  i found out at 10ish last night  engineering and technology

and to trackgirl: im a runner too! distance! you?

yeah iā€™m a distance runner too! i need to figure out a way to get in a run every day of gov skoolā€¦

sweet! we can run together haha! you do cross country then, right? because i need to train for that haha! yayy this is exciting :D

hey guysā€¦i was just wondering if anybody knew when the waitlisted people would know whether or not theyā€™ll be able to go to governors school this summer

congrats to everyone who made it!

we have to reply by april 19tā€¦I remember seeing somewhere that we had only 2 weeks so that this way, the people who were waitlisted have enough time to be notified. soo i guess if people decline before that, youā€™ll be notified  thats my guess though. or they might wait until the 19th and email them all at once. good luck!!! :D

i hate to do this, but: does anyone know what colleges would like better, attending governors in science, or taking calculus 3 at a community college

tomsriver, governors in science MOST DEFINITELY. I mean, you applied and were accepted into governorā€™s school. (almost) anyone can take calc 3 at a community college.

I apologize for interrupting the discussion with a question that may seem redundant or ignorant, but is Governorā€™s School extremely selective in New Jersey?

In my state, Governorā€™s School admissions seem overwhelmingly non-competitive. As an example, last year, 22 people applied from my school, and 21 were accepted.

Exodus, A school can only nominate up to 3 people per school depending upon the class size. And then the nominees have to apply to governorā€™s school by reporting grades, transcripts and sending in essays. I think like 2400 apply each year and each school has accepted 60-90 in the past, maybe even fewer this year due to budget cuts and lack of funding. It also may depend upon your school. I attend a public school and we usually have 0-2 of the 6 applicants make it in each year. Other private schools in North Jersey may have all their applicants make it in, but Iā€™m not really sure what goes on in those environmentsā€¦ Your school might be really amazing; I donā€™t know.

What state are you from?

My school should be one of the best in the state, but I would not consider it ā€œamazingā€ by competitive East Coast standards.

I live in Arkansas, and our application process appears to be fundamentally different from New Jerseyā€™s, based on what youā€™ve described. While multiple essays, teacher recommendations, the studentā€™s resume, transcripts, etc. are required here as well, teachers nominate students (at least they do at my school); Iā€™m not aware of any sort of cap on how many nominations are allotted per teacher. In fact, as much as 10% of the junior class of each school is allowed to apply, translating to roughly 80 students for my school (although, to the best of my knowledge, only ~50 applied this year).

I guess Iā€™m lucky. =P Although I must say, ever since I visited Newark, Iā€™ve been intensely jealous of NJ and other coastal residents. You guys have so many more opportunities available, even if being selected to them is significantly more competitive.

i think it is a big deal here lol  my PRINCIPAL called me to congratulate me and send out a mass email to all the teachersā€¦its kind of embarrassing lolā€¦but oh well  apparently not many people from my school have gotten in in the pastā€¦maybe like only one or two at the most. but hey, that may just be my school :D

hey tomsriver, just curious as I live in Toms River alsoā€¦ do you go to north south or east?

hey guys, I think Iā€™m going to make a Facebook group for everyone in E&T, because I searched and there doesnā€™t seem to be oneā€¦

ā€¦ehz your numbers are way off lol. 2400 applicants and 60-90 acceptances? NJ Gov School has around a 25% acceptance rate, itā€™s definitely not as selective as you think. Every student nominated from my school is usually accepted every year.

jersey13, thatā€™s what the governorā€™s school site said. and it also depends on what school youā€™re from.

Straight from the NJ Gov. School site. The numbers translate to a 26% acceptance rate.

hmmm I could have sworn I saw my numbers somewhere, hmmmmā€¦

thanks for pointing out my error jersey

trackgirl, did you make the facebook group? :D

and if you did, could you post the link so i could join?

no need to make a group i got an email from the coordinator blase he made a group for all the staff and students

if youā€™re on the waitlist, do the people e-mail you if you got rejected or only if you got accepted?
