<p>@Sciencegirl - You are right. I called UNT and they have never had to cut off the NMF scholarships. I guess they don’t get that many. Also they said that accepted students like my D would be first in line. I guess some people put the college on the NMF list without first applying, so she would be ahead of them. I feel comfortable that she will get it if she does mark them number one in the spring when we get NMF notification. This is a great option for studying music for free!</p>

<p>I think it’s fair to say that funding for NMF scholarships is limited at every school, whether they disclose it or not. We tend to list colleges in Category 2 when they have a published limit on the number of scholarships.</p>

<p>For Idaho, D initially received an offer for a smaller scholarship. So wrote to them to ask about it. Cut and paste from the response letter:</p>

<p>For next year (2013-14), National Merit Semi-finalists who advance to Finalist status in February 2013 are guaranteed to receive a full-ride scholarship if they complete the following steps: 1) Apply for admission by February 15; 2) Provide us with a copy of their Finalist letter by March 1; 3) List the University of Idaho as their first school of choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by April 30.</p>

<p>The full-ride scholarship includes university-defined costs for basic registration fees (including a full non-resident tuition waiver for non-residents) and room/board. For the 2012-13 academic year that is a value of $13,894 for Idaho residents; for non-residents it would be a value of $26,682.</p>

<p>No mention of a cutoff of 25 awards. One can guess that if they suddenly became a popular destination for NMFs, they would have to limit them. Looking at NMSC data, it seems they had 17 freshman get the award for 2012, and the letter they sent indicates that they currently have 67 NMF undergrads.</p>

<p>each offer various tuition discounts. Two years ago it was 1/2 tuition if you meet the class rank or GPA targets, less if you don’t. Both are more selective every year, so the awards change year to year, but they are each worth a look (and IMHO offer a better value than most of the other full-ride state schools on your list).
BTW we have one NMF at Miami of Ohio, got a guaranteed discount from his NMF status, but not 1/2. Just got the good news today that our HS junior is a semi-finalist, and am looking forward to more college visits this year!</p>

<p>Patrick - I would love to hear more about what your experience with Miami of Ohio financially. They indicate that they will provide at least a 50% scholarship based on GPA & SAT/ACT. They also offer a couple thousand dollars for NM. I am just wondering if they really will offer a 75% to 100% scholarship. We are in a neighboring state and expect to have a NMF status.
