NMF Scholarships: An Updated Compilation

[Texas A&M University 08-09 Undergraduate Catalog](http://www.tamu.edu/admissions/catalogs/08-09_UG_Catalog/honors/competitive_freshmen/national_merit.htm)

Highest award at Texas A&M appears to be 8k/year competitive.

Based on my son’s experience at Texas A&M, and most of the other NMF he knows, a national merit finalist is very likely to receive the NM Recognition Award at 6k/year, Director’s Excellence at 2.5k/year, with a high probability of also receiving the President’s Endowed Scholarships at 3k/year (though that isn’t based strictly on national merit).

A freshman will also receive the Merit Plus award, which is 2k for one year only. There is also the possibility of a corporate scholarship for another 2k/year.

While none of those scholarships are guaranteed, there does seem to be a very good chance that a national merit finalist will get all of them.

Total benefit, then, is 56k over 4 years. The extra cost for out of state tuition will also be waived.

Thanks for the information; those sorts of scholarships are available to most any high-stat student, though, and this compilation is solely for NMF. (For instance, for high-test relatively-low-GPA NMFs.)

The University of South Florida in Tampa offers a full ride plus extra benefits for NMF, both in state and out of state.

My apologies… I should have read the entire thread before chiming in.

I’m determined to provide some sort of useful information though and might suggest that the fine print be read on all of these offers, particularly in regards to the minimum GPA necessary to maintain them.

^ Definitely wrt to the fine print.

Keilexandra,
I hadn’t seen this one on here so I wanted to share. The University of Tennessee at Knoxville offers the Presidential Scholarship to NMF’s $8000, NFSF’s $4000 & NAF’s $8000. This is on top of (for TN residents) the Hope Scholarships ranging from $4000-$5000 depending on ACT/SAT/GPA thresholds. So total for TN resident NMF’s with a 29ACT/1280SAT/3.75GPA would be $13,000; and total tuition, room & board for 09/10 is $14,104. See [University of Tennessee: Template (2-Column 760px Width)](http://web.utk.edu/~finaid/newpage/nat-merit.html)

^ Thanks RobD! My summary of that was a bit of a mess, but I’ve added it under Public Honorable Mentions and will post it after I get a few more updates.

Why is the University of Alabama classified as full ride when Auburn is full tuition+ guaranteed? According to the Auburn website NMF receive full tuition, $1500 technology allowance (laptop), $4000 study abroad or unpaid internship after sophomore year, $4400 on campus housing allowance that will cover standard housing and an additional $1000 - $2000 a year depending on need. It is really a little more than Alabama’s offer because Alabama’s study abroad allowance is only $2000. Is there something more being offered by Alabama that I am missing?

I haven’t double-checked the websites yet, but my guess is because Auburn does not cover board costs, and I defined a full ride as min. tuition/room/board or equivalent in straight scholarship money (laptop and summer allowances are great, but you can’t apply them to board if you really need to).

Gordon College in MA offers up to 75% off tuition if first choice.

Just wondering, are the amounts per year or all four years added together? Can you verify the information on the “New College of Florida?” I went to their website and it seemed to be only 2k a year. Thanks.

I’ve added Gordon to my own updated list, to be reposted later. And I have also confirmed the 17.5k NCF award: [New College of Florida - Paying for College](http://www.ncf.edu/admissions/financial-aid/scholarships/out-of-state-students) Scroll down to “Excellence Awards.”

Thank you so much.
