Just wanted to give you a heads up on University of Tennessee: Their page on NMF & NMSF scholarships has changed dramatically. They used to give $8000 to finalists and $4000 to SFs but the page no longer mentions SFs and does not give dollar amounts for NMFs. I’ll try and get some more info, but what I posted last month apparently does not apply any more.
See: [University of Tennessee: Template (2-Column 760px Width)](http://web.utk.edu/~finaid/newpage/nat-merit.html)

Thanks for the information, very very helpful indeed… I have a question:

In order to qualify for the “full ride” from these schools listed in post #1, do National Merit Scholarship Finalists need to select these schools as their designated schools? Or can we simply apply to these schools?

Yes, you must select the school as your first choice. I believe the designation must be made by March 1, but you can change it up to April 26th?

I’m sorry, I must have missed something, but would you tell me about removing Texas-Austin from the list? What do they offer, if anything, for NMFs? Thank you!

Is post #39 correct: in-state tuition plus 1K/yr. for OOS students? Are there likely any other scholarships that may be stacked with that? Thanks!

To get information as specific as you are hoping to find, you might have better results contacting admissions directly. A post on the UT Austin college thread may also yield results.

I heard from a reliable source that UT-Austin is removing its NMF scholarships this year. Here is the updated version.

So, unfortunately, the question about stacking is a moot point. Its very sad to see these merit based programs disappearing, but I guess it is understandable considering the state of the economy.

My son got a full ride with an NMF scholarship and I’m convinced my daughter will also be a NMF. I am, however, not convinced there will be many NMF full rides around by the time she graduates in 3 years. Hopefully, I will be wrong.

^^You’d think they could at least keep the part where OOS NMFs get in-state tuition. Seems like that would be a cheap way to keep some great students coming.

Thanks for the timely info about UT-Austin. Although it would appear to have been a very good school academically to consider, for my son the national merit scholarship was the deciding factor in seriously considering it. As an OOS student, there are other schools (with or without merit aid) that are more desirable to him. At least the information will save time and money–no application, no visit. I can’t help but think that the elimination of these scholarships will substantially reduce the number of NMFs attending in the future.

Great thread! Thanks so much for all the hard work, K.

Just FYI, Stevenson University in Maryland (Formerly Villa Julie) offers full tuition scholarships to Maryland Distinguished Scholars. Although not the same program as NMF, the criteria are almost the same and it is overwhelmingly probable that any Maryland NMF or NMSF would qualify. This basically boils down to a full tuition scholarship for Maryland NMFs and NMSFs.

^ Thanks for the heads-up. I’d like to limit this to NMF awards, though; I’d hate to disappoint a Maryland NMF or NMSF (especially SF, because that doesn’t take GPA into account) who didn’t qualify for Distinguished Scholars.

Speaking of Maryland, any benefits of being an OOS NMSF/NMF for admission to Maryland-College Park Engineering? Any scholarships for OOS NMSF/NMF if do get admitted?
