NMF Scholarships: An Updated Compilation

Thanks, Bob, so great that you do this! About Fordham – the award is not competitive. I would say, rather, that applicants generally must be in the top 10% of their class and that Fordham applies other, undisclosed, criteria.

Applicants are not compared to one another, nor are the numbers of NMSF scholarships limited in number. Rather, there are additional requirements. The posted additional requirement is that the applicant be in the top 10% of their class, but Admissions has told me that the 10% is not a hard-and-fast cutoff. They have also told me that they have additional, unpublished guidelines. It sounded like they are basically Finalist requirements, or something very close to that – they don’t want to see "C"s on the transcript and want a decent GPA and strong SAT/ACT score. To quote them, from more than one discussion, “Almost all NMSF applicants receive the full tuition scholarship.” Just like almost all NMSFs become NMFs.

I’d like to second the thank you to @BobWallace for his work on compiling the list. Thank you!

@KvotheFan, I think you might be splitting hairs about Fordham’s process. To be marked as competitive doesn’t mean it is cut-throat competition - just that it’s not automatically awarded/guaranteed, as it is with some schools.

oops, totally missed that “s”, thanks for keeping everything straight!

Does anyone know if the National Merit $2500 Scholarships have been released? From what I know, they mail the awards in March.

Please do not ask random questions in this thread. This thread is for compiling large NMF scholarships.

For what it’s worth, regarding Kentucky, although it’s touted as a full ride, the meal plan included in the “full ride” only provides one meal a day. I don’t know about you, but my son requires three meals a day at a minimum. To get three meals a day, you have to pay another $3,000 or so.

I would call that almost, but not quite, a full ride.

Hi all - I’m not sure who is updating this, but I have a few questions. First, should we expect changes to this and if so, when? Also, I’m having a hard time finding the latest compilation. I think @Bobwallace said he tried to update it but it was over the character limit. Is it somewhere and I’m missing it? Again, thanks to everyone who is contributing to this. It’s extremely helpful.

Latest update is here:

http://nmfscholarships.yolasite.com/</a></p>

And it is up-to-date as of a few weeks ago.

Thank you @bobwallace!

I see you have Ole Miss as “Full Tuition +”. From what they’ve told me, tuition and the cost of a room are included in the NM scholarship. For Finalists they also give a $3,000 and a $1,000 scholarship (per year), which is more than enough to pay for an unlimited meal plan. So I would classify that as a full ride.

You are correct about Ole Miss - the way they disclose this on their website is very confusing, but it’s all there if you know what to look for:

So actually the NMSF award is one of the best around (Full tuition + room) and the NMF award does amount to a full ride. Thanks for pointing that out.

Updated with correct information for Ole Miss:

Thanks and we appreciate your work!!

@bobwallace This is awesome. Thank you. Grace College in Indiana offers full tuition for NMF.

Bob, the Wright State University scholarship came up as topic on another thread. It is listed as being available only for in-state. I e-mailed with their scholarship coordinator. She said the scholarship is given to OOS students as well, but only pays for in-state tuition + rm/bd + books(currently $1350.) OOS students are responsible for the OOS portion of tuition, currently about $8,000. The scholarship still pays for over 2/3 COA for OOS. This is one of the few that is available even to commended students.

Found another one - Alma College (MI) - competitive full ride/full tuition for NMF…

Minor update to University of Cincinnati NMF scholarship offering under section 2 (my son just accepted this offer)…

The Cincinnatus Excellence Scholarship that is automatic for NMF (limited to 60 awards per class) covers in-state tuition, fees and basic multi-occupancy housing. For the 2014-15 year that is $11,000 + $1,008 (engineering college fees - others are different, but also covered) + $6,274 = $18,282. The award adjusts for rising costs in all these areas annually as re-awarded when meeting GPA of 3.2 and 30 hour annual community service requirements. OOS students get a flat rate amount of $3,000 added to this award. The housing allowance must be used for UC contracted housing; it cannot be credited for off campus private arrangements, but note that UC does offer upperclassmen apartment style on campus housing.

Additionally, though not spelled out anywhere that I see, UC’s college sponsored NM award is separate from this and totals $3,000, but is paid out $375 per enrolled semester.

Also, though unrelated to Cincinnatus and National Merit, college/department awards can supplement up to full cost of attendance. Engineering offered a one-time $3,000 freshmen award.

2 more for @BobWallace - Gordon in Mass. offers 75% tuition to NMF - <a href=“Christian College Scholarships - Gordon College”>http://www.gordon.edu/scholarships</a></p>

Willamette in Oregon has a NMF program, too - hoping to learn more from them soon - http://www.willamette.edu/admission/financial_aid/merit/index.html</a></p>

@BobWallace This is the latest from the state of Florida but only opened to residents. It applies to private schools as well but only at the greatest allowed State University total cost of attendance amount.

Nyack College, Nyack NY now offers full tuition to NMF. This definitely didn’t exist last year, when DD visited there.
