Hello all. I am a high school senior anticipating NMF status right now, and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities looks to be my first choice college. I am looking for other NMSF’s who have applied to Minnesota. Right now, I have been offered the Gold Scholarship (10k/year along with official 1k/year). Are there any other finalists out there who have received their scholarship packages? If so, it would be great if you could post your offered scholarships and stats for a comparison point. I have been researching results of previous years, but I thought it would be nice to make a thread for recording this year’s scholarship offers to National Merit students. Personally, I am really hoping for some addition offers from UMN.
My stats: 35 ACT (just improved two points last month); 2260 SAT; 4.0 GPA
Classwork: the 4 AP’s offered at my school, a couple college level classes
Extracurriculars: XC Team captain, newspaper editor-in-chief; local United Way board member
Also, I am a white male from South Dakota. I have reciprocity tuition to Minnesota.
My D is also looking at UMTC as her top choice. Just found out she is a NMF. Stats: 33 ACT; 2330 SAT; 4.2 GPA, 8 AP’s, 30-40 hours of college work, Drum Major, top bands, JV Swimming and tennis.
We live in Iowa-no reciprocity. She was admitted into the Carlson School of Management and honors college. Her scholarship offers are:
Gold Scholar: 10k
Whatever the NMF scholarship is: (I think you mentioned 1k)
Gold National: 7,250/year–I think this is the out of state differential
Private Carlson Freshman scholarship: $4000 for Frosh year only
Thanks for the info, @Iowamomof4. Seems like I have a pretty comparable package. What I am really hoping for is some more renewable money. That would really help me attend UMN. Did all your scholarship offers come at one time?
@joebill Thank you. I really appreciate the information. Do you remember when your son got his scholarship offers? Were they separate offers or sent together? I received the Gold Scholar back in the fall, but I am really hoping for a bonus scholarship offer this month.
It was 2 years ago so I don’t remember clearly but I think late January / early Feb. They were sent together but he didn’t submit his application until just before Christmas.
We’re MN residents and which college you applied to may affect timing. They had a NMF recruiting coordinator who was eager to help and can give you more info. Let them know you’re very interested in attending but are waiting on scholarship notifications.
You’ve got very impressive credentials, believe me they want you to attend.
mh3353,
Three years ago our in-state NMF son received the Gold Scholarship right away in December, later then received an additional $3k Presidential in February with stats not as high as yours. I think the competition is increasing though as the average ACT for CSE honors is currently higher than what it was 3 years ago.
My D is a NMF, 4.0 Valedictorian etc. She applied in November, was accepted in January and admitted to Honors, but has not heard one single word about any kind of scholarship whatsoever! Lots of emails and letters inviting her to accept their offer of admission or come for another visit, but nothing about scholarships…we are OOS.
CoMoMom - 4 years ago, my son had stats like your D and he did not hear anything about merit scholarships until Feb 17th. (I recall making a call to express my concern and was told to be patient - thought as joebill said, things can fall through the cracks) He is will be graduating this year and every semester we are thankful and amazed at the generous monies sent his way. (some of which they have offered to extend into grad school)
Any international students here? I was wondering if anyone heard anything about Global Excellence scholarships? If there wasn’t anything about scholarships in my admission email, does it mean I did not get it or is there still a chance?
WeirdOne: This thread is really not about scholarships for international students, and I would prefer it stayed on its topic. Not a huge deal, of course, but just letting you know. I have no real knowledge on the topic, but I would certainly think you still have a chance for a scholarship. They send out scholarships through March.
@MomMe32 I did email the NMF coordinator. She replied quickly and let me know that scholarship letter is “in the mail”. I haven’t been home yet, so don’t know if it came today, but at least it is on its way…Thanks for the advice!
I was awarded the Gold National Scholarship and Gold Scholar Award.
I’m OOS with 35 ACT, 4.00 GPA, and rank 12/450, also a NMF
I’ve taken 5 AP classes and am taking 6 more this year
Also hoping for more money!
