NMS Application Deadline is today

I called the NMSP this morning to check and see if my son's shchool has submitted the app yet. The girl said not yet & asked me to follow up with the school. So I emailed the GC and no reply from her yet as of the end of the day. Now my son just told me that one of the samifinalist found out that the school no need to submit the application until the end of the month. I wonder if you guys have the same infomation. not sure if that is true. I hope our school did not screw up.

What I learned in the process last year…there are deadlines, but NMSC also knows you can’t force a GC get 'er done…when I was having difficulties impressing on guidance the importance of timeliness, a rep at NMSC told me that the schools really have until the end of this month and, if nothing was received by then at their office, NMSC will contact the school to see what’s up. (Of course, that begs the question why – seems that the GC could just do the form easily!)

I would recommend that you continue to followup with the school with intention…I spent my lunch hour and a bit of emergency vacation time calmly sitting in the GC’s office as a physical reminder this this needed done…NOW. (Emails and phone calls had not helped prior.) What do you know? On the deadline day (as I sat in her office, quietly working) it managed to get sent. (Even though d’s part had been turned in in early September…grrrr.)

End result? Everything was in place, and she matched up for a generous school-sponsored award, and is happily enjoying college. Keep on…reminding…the GC…

Thanks for the response! Let’s hope the GC will complete their part by the end of the month. I really don’t want to keep bothering them, I am afraid they will give my son a hard because I push them.

Keep bothering them! It’s more important to your son at this point that things get turned in. Don’t hope that it gets done–I’ve heard one too many stories. In schools where NMSF are few and far between, it can slip through the cracks way too easily.
