I just found out that the PSAT testing coordinator at D’s school is on maternity leave until next week, so we will have to wait until next Monday to get her scores. I imagine other schools will start giving scores out this week, though.
Lol @3scoutsmom. When I saw that laid back group comment, I said to myself, “Wow, that’s a first for me!”
D’s school does not have Naviance, but they do have PowerSchool, and last year’s PSAT score is posted there. I don’t know if they’ll post the new scores this week, but I’ll be obsessively checking just in case.
And remember scores got delayed last year which led to much speculation about scoring and even AFTER the delay some people waited weeks for their scores with lots of frustrating calls to college board. I hope they have sorted all that out this year because I am not the laid back type!
In theory, shouldn’t homeschool parents be able to check scores today?
Yes, that would make sense to me based on the way principal letters work but I haven’t read the fine print. I don’t remember this two step roll out in prior years.
in theory but in reality only the administrators at the school where the test was taken has access and even they might not have access to homeschoolers scores
Yes, my homeschooler took the test at a private school. The principal told me after the test that neither she nor I would have access to the scores on Dec. 5. We will have to wait until the 12th when DS can see them online.
My son’s girlfriend’s dad just called, he is all nerves because his daughter prepped really well and got perfect scores on SAT so he is expecting her to get a perfect score on PSAT as well. He checked with College Board who charges $15 to give you scores on phone but CB rep said that they won’t be able to give new scores before 12th. Nobody in their school is picking up phones so his guess is that probably everyone was calling and staff decided to give silent treatment.
I don’t know, spending $15 or annoying counselors doesn’t seem worth it to me but then again if I were in his shoes, I may feel as anxious.
guidance counselor has the scores but is tight lipped and hopes to meet with the kids before Christmas break.
Our high school had one NMF last year.
Good luck to everyone this year. There is at least more certainty than we had last year with the test change. This place was full of a lot of people who were crunching every bit of info from every conceivable angle. Was pretty cool to watch actually. Though there was a lot of frustration/anguish right along with it.
At least this year people will have something of a soft target. Won’t necessarily be perfect but we were talking 5-10 point plus ranges.
And we had to walk to and from the forum in the snow too (and read the board by candle light).
My kid is just a sophomore, but just got his score. Oddly (from my point of view) his index (217) is significantly higher than his score’s concordance (209) and honestly both of those numbers are higher than I would have expected from him with virtually no prep (was expecting something concording to about 200). Oddly 209 would never have made the cutoff in Vermont, but 217 (if I got my data correct) would have made it most years, including on both last year’s test with the new scoring, and the prior year’s test with the old scoring. How can the cutoffs be so similar between the 2 scoring systems, if the concordances don’t line up with the indices. Or are the concordances just bad?
“And we had to walk to and from the forum in the snow too…”
@saillakeerie Uphill both ways, right?!
@mathmomvt how did your kid get their score, directly from GC, from Naviance, other??
@3scoutsmom my kid got his score (I think a whole paper report, but not sure he just texted me) directly from his GC after school today.
"He checked with College Board who charges $15 to give you scores on phone … " I would like to believe this is not true.
I was wondering if it was worthwhile to check with the school for scores or if they are bound by “confidentiality” agreements.
we can see it in our naviance.
its worth to check with the school as ours are already up on Naviance.
Wish my son’s school had Naviance!
My D’s school doesn’t have it either, @vistajay.
