Based on that and the difficulty of the current PSAT test, What do you think this year's cutoff is?

New York went down 4 points from class of 2012, when it was 219. I hope it doesn’t go up too much. I know several kids whose school had them take it in a regular classroom with bells going off and kids changing classes in the hallway outside the door.

Scroll down for a chart tracking cut scores over the past 6 years.

Shouldn’t the curve account for differences in difficulty? A 212 should be the same from year to year if it is equated the same way. This is why minus 1 gives an 80 some years and a 78 others, because of the difficulty.

I am an adult that works with many kids and can tell you that sometimes it just seems like certain classes are just more on the ball than others. In public schools, where the administration can’t cherry pick their students, there seems to be a fairly large variation in the performance of classes from one year to the next.

The difficulty of the test has little bearing on the NM cutoff. That is why the test is weighted the way it is. So a score on one test is equivalent to a score on another test. The bump two years ago is an outlier; I guess the kids that year were really smart, idk. Regardless, I think that people call the test “easy” solely because the maths section was easier than prior years. Reading was pretty difficult (I think) and writing was tougher than it was last year. Cutoffs will probably not change much.
