How bad is it that she doesn’t have any AP classes her Junior Year and will be taking her first and 4 AP classes her Senior Year? I worry it will be too late for colleges to give her credit for her AP choices?
How many AP courses does her HS offer?
That is a gauge for colleges as to whether she is taking advantage of the most rigorous program available at her school.
As for AP credit, no, it won’t be too late, but don’t assume 5s until she gets her scores. You can certainly send scores after July for credit that fall. And you can always double-check the colleges she is applying to.
It really depends on your school’s curriculum and where your daughter is best served. Her junior year as an interesting English track with the Shakespeare/Brit Lit that sounds challenging. Theology is another unique class, along with what seems to be a heavy foreign language load-is that 2 years of French or 1 years worth?
I see she is taking no science courses her junior year and 2 in her senior year. Could she take AP Bio junior year instead? I’m also wondering how she can take AP Studio Art without prior art courses? Kids in that curriculum usually have to take years of art before qualifying for the AP course.
I’m assuming that the school in question is a parochial school, and theology is required.
OP has stated that the school is on a block schedule, so French 3 in the Fall and French 4 in the Spring.
As to the OP’s question, it really depends on what AP classes are available before senior year.
Theology is just a fancy name for “Religion”
As far as AP, her school is small and only offers 9 total AP courses.
She had wanted to take AP Bio Junior year, but it was impossible to fit into her schedule given her other “required” courses.
AP US History is probably the only AP class offered before Senior Year. She qualified for, but is not taking it because teacher is unreasonable and no one gets above a B in the class, no matter how hard you work.
Then it’s really a question for the guidance counselor. If s/he decides that not taking APUSH is the difference between checking the “most rigorous” box vs. the “very rigorous” box on the Secondary School Report, then yes, the decision could impact her. IMO, not taking a course because the teacher is demanding is not a valid reason, but YMMV.
