I have applied to Brown. I am an Asian.
So far I did not get a interview from Brown via Skype.
Doest that mean that I am not a competitive applicant?
If you dont get an interview does that mean that my chances are low?

For various reasons, timing, location, availability of interviewers, an interview is not guaranteed. I encourage you to contact Brown admissions and advise them that you have not yet been interviewed and whether one can be arranged.
@T26E4 That’s very interesting, that Brown doesn’t interview students at some prep schools. I wonder why though. Maybe it’s just that the elite northern private schools have too many alumni connections that it would lead to bias interview?
The likelihood is that the alum that has been assigned to interview just hasn’t been as quick as the ones assigned to your friends. We’re all human with different things going on in our lives. Be patient, and if after a couple of weeks you haven’t heard anything, then it would be appropriate to contact the school. Good luck to you!
I disagree 100% with fogcity and Lily1985. Brown is now in committee with those students who have made the first cuts. At this late date (Feb 27), no amount of student inquiry will generate an interview. If, for some reason, Brown (or another college that interviews) REALLY desires an interview, then they may direct volunteers to contact an applicant. Otherwise, assume none is forthcoming.
“Be patient, wait a couple of weeks” – means the middle of March – at that time, colleges are reviewing final lists and aligning Fin Aid packages. We’re really into the heart of the decision-making schedule currently.
No, I know people who specifically requested to interview students from their former high schools and those requests were granted. Pretty much the only “conflict of interest” acknowledged in the Brown interview game is if you have a child applying that year.
The reason students from some prep schools aren’t interviewed – many prep schools are located in rural, remote locations (like Northfield Mount Hermon, Phillips Exeter), where there are hardly any alums and as many as dozens of seniors applying. Logistically, alumni interviews just couldn’t be arranged (in the pre-Skype era). At many of these schools, there is a direct contact between college admissions and HS guidance – there is a conversation where all the applicants are discussed in-depth. Some prep schools are just a different beast. Now, there are many prep schools where students do get alumni interviews – I’ve interviewed many students from prep schools.
And fogcity and Lily are wrong – it’s too late now to arrange an interview.
You’ll be okay, the interviews are not very influential in admissions. They are generally for you to learn about the school more than the school to learn about you!
Didn’t have an interview myself but i have strong conviction in my other application documents. An interview ain’t a requirement, just recommended.
