Does Brown interview everyone or just those with chances?

I’m just wondering if Brown offer an alumni interview to all students, particularly international students that doesn’t have the chance to get on-campus interviews. From what I read from the website, after a candidate submit his/her application Brown will consider offering an interview. I’m from Thailand and I just got contacted to be interview. Does this means I am qualified to be interviewed or is it everyone?

Everyone is qualified to be interviewed. Whether that happens is dependent on a number of things. First, there needs to be an alum in your area. Second, he or she must contact you, and that depends on his or her time and availability. So, you may or may not be interviewed. If you are, fine, if you are not, also fine. It is not a requirement for the application. Many students are accepted without being interviewed.

Brown does no on-campus interviews. The goal is to interview 100% of applicants. So your being contacted means nothing about your qualifications. Enjoy your interview!

interviews at brown are informal & informational, so don't worry.

i just got back from mine! :]

good luck to you!

I've got a Brown interview over-the-phone in 19 minutes. I'm terrified. Letranger can you tell me what to look for? What to be prepared for etc.

Over the phone? That's odd... but very interesting! haha

Since this isn't an evaluative interview, they just want to see what kind of person you are and how you think. Don't think you need to show off your accomplishments or anything. Tell them about your experiences and beliefs when prompted. They want to get a feel for who you are.

The impression I got was that the interview doesn't have much pull in the overall admission process. Just be yourself and have fun with it. Don't stress because you'll be happy wherever you end up!

Good luck fromthesouth!!!! Hope this helps!

Well I couldn't make it to the closest town she was able to be at, Shreveport. It is a 2 hour drive from here and when the opportunity was given to have it over the phone my parents jumped at it instead of gas to drive.

Well I think my interview was pretty good..it lasted 47 minutes and we talked about everything from my grades to how corrupt the Louisiana judges are.

Good times. Good times..

^ Congrats; sounds good!

Ahahah the title of this thread scared me sooo much! 'Cause my boyfriend (who goes to my school and lives like 10 min away from me) applied the day before I did and has already had his interview, whereas I haven't been contacted yet. I was like "GREAT WAY TO FIND OUT I'M NOT QUALIFIED! :("

yeah i got a really good interviewer..really nice and informative..we had a few good laughs and some "inside jokes" about louisiana lol

talked about how i wanted to challenge myself to new ways of thinking at a liberal, northern school and get out of the dead-end area of the south im in etc..im familiar with the city she lives in and we talked about it a good bit..talked about her concentration and how you need to be mature to go to brown etc.

im just really happy with the way it went, altho i still don't expect to get in

so i got an email about an interview and then showed my mom. and she was like, wait, isn't that that girl's mom who went with you in your prom limo??? hahaha so yeah, my interviewer is a girl's mom from my school. i don't really know her, but she went in the same limo as me at prom? i guess my mom spoke to her at the pre-prom festivities and said she was really nice. how bizarre!!!

jpd ur gonna get a great interview then :D

i was emailed about interviews taking place in a major city near my home, but they are offered just on that day, at a specified location. i can't make this interview due to a longstanding family commitment (a wedding).

and the email said to let the coordinator know if you had a conflict, so that I could possibly get a local alumni interview on a different day. but she hasn't responded :(((

i really hope i get an interview

try to call them.

did they give you their number? mine did lol

Don't panic if you don't get an interview. Brown didn't offer me one and still accepted me ED.

My D, RD two years ago, didn't get called for an interview until the middle of February, so don't worry so much!

Wha'? My interviewer told me you had to pass some sort of 'screening' to qualify for an interview... Guess she was wrong.

yeah, i find it hard to believe the admissions office would give interviewers names of applicants who aren't qualified for brown. it seems to me that would be a huge waste of time.

Believe it, chjmov1. And phoenix, your interviewer was wrong. It's all computerized. You file your application, it gets into the computer system, and is automatically uploaded into the site where interviews are arranged. 100% of applicants are in the system and eligible for interviews; there is no screening process. (The only exception, I suppose, would be celebrities -- I doubt Emma Watson is in the system.)

Since more than 85 percent of students are not accepted, then I suppose it could be considered a waste of time. But Brown views alumni interviews in other ways, as a PR tool, a way to put a friendly face onto what can be a cruel process. Which is why it is such a shame when some interviewers are condescending or mean or ask ridiculous questions.

I just got back from my interview. I really liked my interviewer. My interview lasted for a whole hour, we had so many things in common! I wished that an interview meant a better chance, but who knows?
