Hi everyone!

My daughter was accepted as a Fall Transfer student at 2 a.m. this morning :-) ! We applied around November and then submitted her Housing application with fee around December. Today, I logged into the Housing website and received this message, "there are no contracts available for your housing application right now." Does this mean there is no available housing for Fall? I tried calling the Housing dept but got a recording and left a message. Do you have some insight into our situation? Thanks in advance!!

Congrats! :-bd

Please continue to call housing to get the scoop. For ** freshmen **, housing contracts where due March 11th, but I think UF keeps some slots available for transfer students. After you are admitted to UF, housing will send information to complete a Residence Hall Contract if space is available.

However, no need to wait on the e-mail, go ahead and call housing. If, for some reason no spaces are available, they may offer a temporary triple, or you may need to find something off-campus. UF has lots of options off-campus (and as a rule, with a room mate, off campus can be a heck of a lot more affordable).

Congrats again!

Go Gators!

I can’t reach anyone at Housing by phone but they have responded to my email. Sarah will receive her AA degree in August after she completes a precalculus class this summer. She is currently a high school student. Housing explained that she is on a waiting list and won’t be offered housing until her final transcripts are received. If enrollment starts in late August, I’m not sure how that can work out for her. Off-campus housing may be an alternative but I was really hoping for on campus since she is so young and this will be her first time away from home. I wonder how difficult off-campus housing can be to find as we wait for Financial Aid funds.

Housing shouldn’t be too difficult to find if she has to stay off-campus. If you look at the UF class of 2018 or UF class of 2017 pages on facebook, there are usually tons of students trying to sublease their apartments or find other students to sign a lease with. Some of the more popular housing communities are filling up but I know there were a lot of freshman last year who found out at the last minute that there was no room for them on campus, and they found apartments off campus to stay in.

Thanks for the response! Would you be able to recommend a housing community?

Do you mean a “living Learning Community” or a dorm?

http://www.housing.ufl.edu/undergrad/choices/living-learning-communities/

Her options may be limited, due to her late sign-up period. However, most freshmen (and even with her AA, in a sense, she’s still a freshman), live in Broward or Jennings. These are great dorms for getting to know people, but they can get a bit crazy. Yulee, Graham and Tolbert are other dorms popular with freshmen.

The one you may want to avoid is Lakeside, as it could be way to far from campus (and her classes). Bus service is available.

Hume is the most expensive ($3,352 a semester vs. $2,484 for a double), but after the honor students have selected rooms, some may still be available, in which case she may be interested in Hume, so check it out.

Good Luck!

Hi, I am also transferring in the fall and I am in the same boat as you. UF told me that I have to wait until my final transcripts are received in May in order to receive a contract. I am hoping the I get one because I do not want to get an apartment now. I’m praying that they don’t run out. Lets keep our fingers crosses.
