No financial aid for transfer students??!??

I was admitted for fall to UCSD and I plan on starting in the summer...

I just called UCSD fin aid office and some lady told me transfers aren't eligible for fin aid until fall... is this true or is she crazy??

someone please chime in

Each UC is doing their own summer aid . Its on a campus by campus basis

wow san diego is ridiculous, they don’t offer aid to incoming transfers for summer… astounding

Why would they? summer is consider still as part of the 10-11 school year and not the 11-12 school year. So until the fall your not officially in their school

other UC’s do such as Berkeley.

UCLA covered $1,200 of the $2,000 costs for my 8 units of summer school.

Also I think UCSD gives out the least fin aid in general. Man why is ucsd such stingy little pukes?

completely inexcusable

Are you talking about loans that you will repay with interest at market rates or is this money you did nothing to earn but expect UCSD to simply give to you for your education?

nah. it’s actually money that I financially qualify as a US citizen and taxpayer to help afford the ridiculous cost of summer school. Nice wise crack though weasel

Yup, I’m dropping $7k out of my own pocket between The Village and courses this summer at UCSD. Go me. :-/

yoo Grimes… I got in dude, remember I was messaging you tripping out some months ago… haha

do you know how much the village is for summer and what it includes?

Congrats man! Of course I remember!

[UC San Diego Summer Housing](http://hdh.ucsd.edu/housing/summer.asp#summerliving) <– all the summer costs (about half way down is where it lists it all in the grid.)

I’m dropping $3k on housing. It doesn’t include a dining plan during the summer I don’t think.

btw, just talked to The Village today, they will not allow you to live there for the Summer unless you also plan to live there for Fall. Super lame.

@Anacondrea: That’s incorrect, and whoever you spoke to is wrong. I’ve already received my room number for the summer and they never asked about being a UCSD student in the fall, nor am I contractually obligated to stay there in the fall. On their website, it even says non-UCSD students are eligible and there’s no mention of fall requirement.

The ONLY requirement is for fall bridge housing, which requires you to be on campus by September 3rd (counting as summer.)

@grimes99 The lady I spoke to was horrendous, I was so upset when I got off the phone. You think I should push harder and try to get in… How did you get the ball rolling?

@Anacondrea: I didn’t even call anybody, I just printed out the summer application, filled it out, mailed it in with my $300 deposit and a few weeks later had my room number and move in date. There’s definitely no rule of having to be there in the fall, though.

@grimes99 I will do just that then, maybe my $300 prepayment will be more motivation for them to not be a**es and let me live there.

I called them pre-application because I am diabetic and wanted to make sure there were single rooms open and that I could get a small fridge in my room. The lady I spoke to avoided my specific inquiry and instead said that everything I read on the website was outdated and wrong. She said that it is unfair for new transfer students to live there in the Summer because it guarantee’s them a room for Fall. I said that I do not plan to live there in the fall, she said then I definitely cannot live there. I repeated what she said “so I have to make a school year long commitment plus that of two Summer sessions just to live there for a month?” she said “Yes.”

Pretty ridiculous. I’m glad to see that her points have been proven invalid. I was furious. Your success has made me feel much better. Thank you.

@Anacondrea: Sorry to hear about that :frowning: The good news is that I highly doubt you’ll have a problem getting a single. It’s the summer, most students go home.

Can’t you apply for private loans to use during the summer?
