So I got accepted info NYU LSP, and I've been checking daily for my financial aid package to update on Albert. Before it would say it was still under review, and now I've just been able to click on the year and view the package, but it says there's no financial aid information.

I don't understand, does this mean they're not giving me anything?

I suspect it means it is not ready yet. Everyone is eligible for unsubsidized Stafford loan, I think of around 5K, so that would be there for anyone who submitted FAFSA.

I am not sure what deadline LSP students have to adhere to in accepting NYU’s offer of acceptance.

NYU RD students usually hear 4/1 and I believe they get info about their financial package at the same time or around the same time. They do try to give you that one month to think over and decide if you are attending NYU, with financial package info available to help with the decision making process by 5/1.

So I gather depending on the date you need to respond as a LSP student, they may have to give you around the same amount of time. Though I am thrown off by some LSP acceptances who have reported a shorter time frame than one month to get back to NYU about their decision.

Someone accepted into LSP should chime in with the time frame because I am not sure if there is a difference for this group of students.

@evolving: yeah I was accepted LSP and they only gave us 3 weeks to accept the admissions offer, which I did.

I’m just not completely sure about going because it’s no surprise how expensive the school is, and if I can receive a decent amount of financial aid then it would be easier for me to go (because I really want).

Hopefully financial aid info comes soon, that way I can make my decision.

Are you able to call NYU Financial Office and get it directly from them when you will receive the financial information? This is certainly a reasonable query on your part.

evolving: well I’m here on the west coast so I’m sure I can’t call right now. But tomorrow I will definitely try, and I’ll let you know what happens :)

Haha, collegesam, I did not mean immediately! Actually, I think you should track down the financial aid officers at home and get them to answer your question RIGHT NOW, to let them know how all this waiting is torture for you all. I wish some of them can read the anxiety on these threads and not dilly dally whenever possible (or make some of the policies clearer).

Also, I put it out there because sometimes international students have a direct query for NYU and I have offered to call at times since international calls are expensive.

evolving: lol forgive me I’m just a very nervous (and tad impatient) student! But if I could stalk them and make them give me answers, I would.

But I thank you for your help, I’m anxiously awaiting to see exactly what I can get.

GL. I hope it is good news and it can work out for you to attend NYU. For the right students, it really is a great place to be in the heart of NYC. Also, it is true. They tend to select more creative students from what I have seen and read. Sonny is loving the artistic/ musical opportunities, along with challenging school work.

I’m in exactly the same position as you - I received my acceptance (to LSP) email on
March 16, and my financial aid year link has been active on Albert to show no reward. I’ve been/still am super bummed because I don’t expect much aid and NYU was my top choice school… anyhow, NYU’s website says they release financial aid info in early April, and today Albert had the following update:

“Admission Decision Release and Contacting the Office of Financial Aid
We expect that all admission decisions will be sent via email sometime after April 1st, at 5pm (Eastern Standard Time). Admission decisions will not be available anywhere on this website. Decisions will not be released over the phone until April 4th. Students who are admitted and who call or email with questions about their financial aid award are asked to be patient. We expect the volume of inquiries to be high during this time. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

(the ‘Read More’ link didn’t actually work…)

…so it seems they sent out the LSP letters early. Great, thanks for the exaggerated anxiety. Let’s hope for the best…
By the way, I’m on the west coast as well and considered calling the financial aid office too. Very parallel situations we have here.

you’re not alone in your anxiety… not being able to go would be a huge disappointment, one I’m likely facing.

I live in California - so I applied to Berkeley (state school - cheaper) which is my other top choice though much more selective than NYU. Decisions are released tomorrow, speaking of anxiety…
Which part of the coast are you in?

I had no choice but to choose New York - which I think I would have anyhow - because I was born two days too young for the deadline (my birthday is August 23 1993, you have to have been born prior to August 21 1993 to study abroad… absurd…).

Bmhedu: Yeah, hopefully they hurry up with financial aid, I cant take it!

As for me, I too live in California, not too far from LA.

And that sucks, I chose Florence. If it were me I’d call and see if they’d let me go despite the mere two-day difference lol but since New York would’ve been your first choice, I’d say you’re good to go :)

@bmhedu
You don’t want to do LSP freshman year abroad. It means you weren’t on-campus as a freshman, which in the hierarchy here is NYU > LSP > LSP abroad. You’ll get more grief than you can imagine. Consider it a favor that you’re at the main campus, that’s the better program. You can study abroad in the normal abroad program for a full semester anytime you want, but if you’re in the abroad program, you can’t escape that.

ahans, I gather you got around $29,000 in grant money? If that is the case, that is considered one of the better packages for NYU. Consider yourself one of the blessed because even scholarship candidates only get $25,000 or less/ year (except for the full ride tuition Dean’s Scholars).

Having said that, the bad news is the cost of NYU is $59,000 with tuition, fees, housing, meal plan, books, health insurance (if you are not covered by your parents’ plan). You can only knock off a significant amount off this total if you live and commute from home and save on the meal plan.

THIS DOES NOT FACTOR IN YOUR MISC. COSTS, like entertainment, occasional meals out, clothing, airfare home (if applicable), spring break costs (if applicable), etc.

So, for example, the real cost for my son was $64-67,000 for Freshman year because we had to get him a new computer and he lives with $600/ month budget for miscellaneous uses, which has been just about right for him. He does take advantage of concerts (discounted tickets), purchase of musical-related items, like records, clothing (from thrift shops). So he is not overly extravagant but he is also not totally “deprived” living in NYC.

ahans93: I checked this morning to find that mine was uploaded (no e-mail though…) as well… much to my disappointment, my aid was contained only the Unsubsidized Loan and Federal PLUS Loan, equaling the total cost of attendance.
bummer. I’m pretty sure this means I won’t go considering the debt I would ultimately be in…
