I'm an international student and I took all sciences and math with no humanities at school. (it's a norm here for top students in my country - i'd say about half of the students at the two top schools take no humanities at all. and only a small percentage take a foreign language (or "third lang"), since everyone is already bilingual in both English and his/her mother tongue.)

so I didn't take any humanities SAT IIs. should I try for it just for the sake of "balance"? I haven't studied any humanities for the past two years, fyi, so it's probably suicidal. =/

i have 2400 for both SAT I and II (Phy Chem Math2). is that enough to make up for the lack of a humans subject?

Depends on what the schools you're applying to require. Check each school's requirements to see if they require you to have taken a humanities SAT II. If so, take one. If not, don't bother.

Sorry, I meant Lit [ mixed it up with the AP Lit and Lang tests] . BTY, could you take a Language tests? You mentioned you are international, but I did not know what country you're from.
I think that if you are applying to any of the most competative colleges in the US, it wouldn't hurt to have taken at least one Humanities SAT subject test.

unless you have taken english/humanities courses, your chances of scoring 700+ are not very good. If you are a senior, Jan scores would be last chance. What you could do is pickup a copy of CB's Real Subject Tests (if available locally bcos I don't think they are avail online), and take a humanities-english practice test at home. If you score high, then register for Jan sitting, otherwise go with what you got.

btw: Eng Lit can be brutal unless you can read and interpret poems well.

nah, my chances of scoring well on Lit or FL isn't very good either.

but don't they take into account our school system in Singapore? I have lots of seniors and friends who got into top colleges with the same SAT IIs that I have.

har? lol, I said HALF. I definitely did. xD

congrats on getting into Dartmouth! You'll love it there, I can see an acquaintance of mine enjoying herself there, class of 11. she's one year your junior, you might know her. are you on papamama scholarship, govt scholarship or on financial aid?

PM me if you wanna link up with her, unless you already can through some Dartmouth webbie?

and menloparkmom, I can't take Chinese for nuts... two years ago I did get A1 for for an advanced Chinese subject, but that was two years ago. So I guess this thread is officially closed huh.

Unless I'm gonna spend my entire January studying Lit or World History.

if she's from waffles i probably know who she is already
if she's from the... other school, then who cares?!

haha just kidding, good luck (;

(btw world history can be studied for, assuming you have a good grasp and general interest in the subject. i did it and ended with a raw score ~+7 on what was needed to get a 800. i also have texts which i'm willing to offload. pm me if that'll help)

(alsoooooooo, chinese SAT IIs should be crazy easy for us. i fail to see how someone who ever scored an A1 would be unable to breeze to a 700+. unfortunately, i've heard that colleges don't really view chinese SAT scores from people like us favourably)
