No Interview, a Problem?

So I got an email in early December about applying to have an interview as part of my application to Vanderbilt. I saved it and decided I would come back to it later after I finished the rest of my applications. However, I guess I forgot about it in the midst of wrapping the rest of my apps up and getting started on financial aid stuff.

Will not applying for an interview hurt me very much? Was this a mistake that I'll regret, or will it not matter very much?

I don't want this to be a chance thread, but if you guys need context, I have a 34 ACT, 4.0 UW/4.4 W GPA, good teacher recs and a good CommonApp essay, although my ECs are somewhat weak. I have also met with my admissions counselor a few times and he seemed to like me.

i never even got an email about an interview…is that bad? I called the admissions office to make sure my app was complete and it was but i never was notified about any interview. hmmm…but i wouldn’t worry though bc ik they are optional and can probs only help not really hurt. GOOD LUCK!

I got an email saying that applicants CAN apply for an interview, not one that was trying to set one up. And at least you got an email saying your app was complete. ;D

Good luck to you too!

I didn’t get an interview… I got in. Yeah, not a big problem.

anotherazn, are you saying that you never received an email about setting up an interview or that you received the email but decided not to take the interview?

I requested an interview close to 2 weeks ago, and if I don’t get one, I won’t worry too much. There’s only 1 person in my entire general area (I checked lol), so I don’t want to keep rerequesting the same person. Should I apply for an interview again (with the same person), try to set up something in another closeby city, or should I not bother with it?

from what i’ve heard, the interview is completely optional. it is mostly for if you have any questions. they do evaluate you though, as well, so if you think you’re a pro at getting interviewed, go for it.
but if you’re in an area where there’s one alum who isn’t responding…ehh, not a big deal. they’ll understand when they see where you live that there weren’t many in your area.

@sypde24: Thanks for responding! I’ll request one for a last time, then won’t worry about it. I’d love to have an interview, but not having one won’t be the end of the world. Good luck everybody :)

The interview is optional. Our S got the interview email and went to the link but found that all of the possible interviewer links were for alums living 1 - 2+ hours away (there were 42 or so as I remember). We live in a major metro area and there were no interviewers listed for our half of the state. I have emailed their interviewer “corps” office twice and his AdCon regarding the problem but no response as of yet.

I rechecked the Vanderbilt web site this evening and the interview section says that interview requests are closed for this year as they might not get the results in time to include in the application folder for review.

Looks like this interview will be optionally not.

I didn’t interview and just got accepted, so apparently not interviewing doesn’t really hurt your chances

congrats!!! wait how did you find out already? Did you apply regular?
