So today I called the Pomona admissions office to ask about requesting an interview.... and after 15 minutes of being on hold, some lady told me that I couldn't schedule one because the deadline had already passed.

gulps face palm

I'm applying RD to Pomona, but it is one of my top school choices. Do I have any chance of getting in without an interview? Or should I just consider the $65 spent to apply there a waste...

I'll post my scores and stuff if you want to know, but I really just want to know how necessary the interview really is...

Welcome to CC! Not to worry - there have been posts by students who were accepted without an interview. But if there are other schools to which you're applying that require interviews, best thing would be to contact them ASAP.

Thanks so much! That really made me feel a lot better (or as good as you can feel when applying to a school with a 16% acceptance rate).

I was actually in the process of requesting interviews from my other schools when I requested Pomona's. I found it hard to find anything about the interview actually.... talk about bad programming practice...

All of the information about interviews for my other colleges were much easier to find, and had there deadlines posted right on the common ap.

Will it hurt my chances a lot not having an interview? I know for Vassar it was for the students to learn info rather than for the college, but for other colleges, it's really important.

I know this is off topic, but does Pomona's admissions office always put people on hold? Even though I told them I was calling long distance I still had to wait a really long time. This one lady was really rude to me too, she acted like it was my fault that they changed the ED II deadline (the common app and all my forms say its due December 28th, yet the admissions office insists it's the 15th) and didn't notify me. And then she was talking to someone in person while I was trying to ask her a question! I know it's busy this time of year, but c'mon. The other times I called the people were pretty cool, though.

Don't worry about the interview. They won't hold it against you if you couldn't arrange one. Good luck with your app!

I found the Pomona and Claremont McKenna people very rude when my mom and I were attempting to set up a visit. It was especially difficult because we live on the East Coast and with the time difference it's challenging. And it's such a shame because they're both such nice schools. I guess at that level they think they don't have to be polite to have people apply. :( Even the people checking me in at the admissions office were rude. But all of the students I talked to were really nice. So I guess the message is don't get deterred by the rudeness!

Nah, I called twice. There were two different people who answered the phones and both of them said the deadline for ED II was December 15th. I doubt two different people would make the same mistake. I was very clear when I said that all my ED II forms said Dec. 28th, but it doesn't really matter because I had it all in anyways.

I wasn't deterred by the rudeness at all. :D I love Pomona.
