How important are interviews in Pomona's admissions process?

I just realized I missed the deadline for alumni interviews, and I'm freaking out a little bit. There's no way I would have been (or will be) able to fly to Claremont this semester.

Did anyone out there get in without interviewing?

Perhaps you could call Pomona and explain the situation? I think what is important is that you make the attempt to schedule one.

My son submitted his Application for Interview, and Pomona responded by stating that since the nearest interviewer was 180 miles away, my son was not obligated to interview. Pomona also said that my son would not be penalized by not interviewing as he made every effort to schedule one.

But since interviews are highly recommended for Pomona, I think it is better to call (even though you missed the deadline) than to not even try.

but how would the admissions officers know that u attempted to get an interview when they go over ur application?
what if the person, when u try to make an appointment, just hangs up the phone by saying "oh the deadline is over"? he/she might not even know ur name?

Lanie...try calling. You'll get a quicker response.

the only one....Pomona asks that you schedule your interview before 12/1, so if they respond by saying that you missed the deadline, then you have to accept that you missed the deadline and your application will be considered without an interview.

In my son's case, I'm pretty sure Admissions has it noted on his file that he was excused from having an interview due to distance.

It doesn't hurt to politely ask if they will still schedule you an interview but be prepared if Pomona says it is too late (and accept their answer gracefully).

don't be scared. pomona people are very friendly. try to be yourself. they are looking to see the real you. don't try to be someone that you're not. the more relaxed you are, the better the interview will go. good luck!
