I just called Pomona to schedule an on-campus interview -- I didn't realize that today was the last possible day to schedule one -- and the staffer who answered said there were no spots left, but that she would put me on a waiting list that was 129 people long... I'm really worried that this will hurt my chances of admission, because on their website it says they expect Southern CA students to have on-campus interviews.

Will it hurt my chances? I know that some colleges say you're not at a disadvantage if you don't have an interview, but their website made it seem practically mandatory for Southern CA applicants to have one.

Thanks for any help.

Swimstar, our daughter was not able to be interviewed as there wasn’t an alumnus in our area (Northern California) available to meet with her.

She is a most amazingly happy Pomona freshman.

Good luck to you!

what is your gender, ethnicity, GPA, SAT scores, and important ECs, and what part of the country do you live in

Thanks for the support rickmanfan. sagehen94, I don’t feel that my stats are really needed in this case, nor do I feel comfortable posting them. Thanks for trying to help though :)

At least you made the effort, so no worries. Pomona realizes that they can’t accommodate all on-campus interviewees.

Good luck!

My S is also applying to Pomona, but we just realized that Dec. 1 was the deadline to request an alumni interview. We live in Europe, so there’s no way we could make it to campus for an interview and I doubt if there are any Pomona alumni with 200 miles of where we live. So, he may not have to interview, but will it hurt my S’s chances that he did not REQUEST one until today, i.e., after the deadline? We plan to call them tonight, but I feel his chances of admission, which were shaky at best, are now severely hurt by what will be perceived as a lack of planning on his part.

It only hurts you if you live in Southern California. It is expected that Southern California residents will interview on campus.

Sarsfield,
Ask if you can do a Skype interview.

My daughter was accepted with no interview.

Quite a number of students are accepted without interviews.

I did not interview (or request one) and it didn’t give me trouble in the end…if you’re really concerned, I suppose you could add to your Additional Info that you at least tried to schedule one.
