I used to participate in Broadcast Journalism in high school but wasnt able to pick it up again in college. I recently rekindled my love for it and want to try to go to j-school. I have a high GPA (Cumulative: 3.9 Major: 3.85) and have done political communications and film production internships. Would schools like NYU, Columbia (Master of Science program), Syracuse, CUNY, and USC (Global Communications) be out of my league?

Have any recommendations for tyro friendly programs? Thanks!

Before spending a ridiculous pile of money on a graduate degree in a field that is not known for high pay (and that is suffering some of the same layoffs and cutbacks as the print media field) I would suggest pursuing internships and entry-level positions in broadcast journalism to make sure it’s where you want to go.

I wanted to take a year off to build some experience but, long story short, my parents will not budge: I must go to grad school and I must do it immediately after I get my Bachelor’s :/

This is not your parents’ life. You cannot let them tell you what to do at this point.
