No longer applying for Financial Aid (International Student)

I’m an international student from Canada applying to Rice University, and on my Common Application I put yes under “do you intend to pursue need-based financial aid”. However, as my financial situation has changed and since Rice is need-aware for international students, I would no longer like to apply for aid.

I’m not sure what to do from here? My family’s supporting financial documents are eligible for admission, so do I simply not file FAFSA etc? Do I contact the admissions office or the financial aid office? Will it affect my admissions chances if I don’t apply for aid but my common app says I did? Thank you!

If you are a Canadian citizen and unless you are a U.S. Permanent Resident, it’s unlikely that you are eligible to file FAFSA anyway.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to contact the admissions office and clarify your intentions regarding applying for need-based financial aid.

Can you afford to pay the full cost of attendance to attend Rice?

If not…apply for aid.

You can’t complete a FAFSA if you are not a U.S. citizen.
