Great American don't you think yur posting too many sports articles? This is not what this forum is for. Lot's of people are not looking here becuz you post too many sports stories. I play sports myself but I am lookign for info on getting in not about sports.

Maybe you should be looking for grammar and spelling lessons instead.

Yo've been waiting sinc e Feb. 2006 for that post..???

Yes. My hobby is making fun of little kids who not so much speak the language than chew it up and spit it out and all of its gristly glory.

i'm leaning toward spot's side on this one... it's a little inefficient to have to sift through so many sports articles...

funny this thread was started, because just yesterday I was about to say something about all the GreatAmerican articles. They do drive me nutts sometimes, 1 in 10 of them are actually worth reading. I suppose I could quote every article in the Detroit Free Press and get 1,000+ posts as well ;)

also kind of funny how if you go the second page of these forums, over 90% of the threads are GreatAmericans...yet none have any responses to them...LOL, I think it's enough already

oneironaut! Well well here we are in the Dark Ages and once again you post on the forum. Welcome back!

So are you gonna turn down my cookie offer again THIS YEAR too????

:-)

Last time we talked I was the proud mom of an Appointed Plebe....now I'm the proud mom of a Plebe!! Yipee!!!!!

Evidence of the number one disease that seems to affect middle-aged USNA graduates [mostly men it seems] more than any other:
An inability to let go! Really, let go. Your time has passed. Unless you are an applicant, a parent [even then a bit questionable], currently attending, or otherwise currently involved with USNA, what are you doing at all on this website?

I sure hope that when I am 40+ or -, that I have better things to do in my life than post to a website about the Academy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, great place to be from rather than at. Yeah, yeah, yeah, wonderful place, but, really, this is a hobby? Posting articles about the Academy to a website. I get a little tired of hearing ol' graduates talk about their days at the Academy. Like they have nothing else to talk about. Do students at Notre Dame or Princeton have to put up with this too? Are middle-aged graduates posting sports stories on those threads too?

Listen, I am reasonably happy here. The education has been great, my summer was good, life's wonderful. Just remember, the "man" starts to indoctrinate you early here. Then, next thing you know, for the rest of your life, the first thing out of your mouth is: "I went to USNA" instead of how are you, etc., etc., etc.

Sort of like the ROTC/USAN debate. I really think its worth going here if you are admitted and all that stuff. I also think, all things being equal, that USNA graduates will prefer USNA graduates. But, at the end of the day, its WHAT you do with your education not WHERE you went that will make or break you.

Maybe review a few other threads, then back to sleep.

I agree with Spot. I actually felt a little guilty because during the run of the USNA women's soccer team, I read the articles and thanked GA for posting them. Since then it has seemed like an avalanche.

Hope there are no hard feelings, GA. We all love you but would like a few less articles that we have to scroll through.

I, personally, have no problem with Great American's posts. Sometimes I have time to read them, sometimes I don't. If I don't have the time, it is quite easy to just not read them. He is very good about putting the subject of the post in the headline, so there is no reason to spend the time if you don't have it.
I wasn't even going to respond to this until some of the 'younger' posters made their opinions available. I forsee a hard future for young people who think that 40ish graduates have nothing to add to this forum, and feel that if people are not attendees or prospective attendees, they should stay away. There is a great wealth of information of ALL kinds on here. There is also a lot of bullhockey. Take what you need, and leave the rest lie.

Stealth_81 out.

Jam, You have a lot to learn. It's a good thing you are young and have plenty of time.

Every time I get in my car and drive 70 miles back up in the mountains to interview a candidate or visit a school, my 91 yr old WWII veteran dad asks me if I am getting paid. When I tell him no, he asks me why I do it. I tell him that it is so he can sleep at night. I am doing everything I can to see that the best possible quality of young men and women are there to defend his country.

The Academy, thank God, is not Notre Dame or Princeton. Sometime, probably before you are aged 40, you will realize it.

JT, you'll find out one day, and quickern you can imagine, it ain't near as simple as I once thought it all was.

"Old" guys (& gals) of "40+ or -" , talking like a pirate, reminiscing of yesteryear, yearning for another shot even if it's a vicarious billet or game substitution, can in reality be very fragile softies despite appearances of craggy mugs and spare tires. Go gently with an understanding spirit. Life is not always what we perceive it to be and you're early on the journey.

Personally, I'm glad someone is doing some of the research. Doesn't mean I have to read it all, though. When in doubt, click it out.

And freedom is a strange and fascinating concept. I prefer mine to yours. But thanks to you for fighting for mine.

Thanks 69 for service rendered on my behalf, past, present, future. I could only wish that my soon2be plebe may one day have in his heart that which you do and today is a vision of life's excitement coming at him.

Not a graduate, not a student, only a parent....

but the wisdom shared by alumni I read with great interest....a lot of it I have passed to our son, once an interested candidate, now a plebe.... some advice I have even "squirrled away" just in case... in hopes that I never need it- but there, through those who have BTDT....

what I have come to realize is that we all learn from each other, and this site has been a support far beyond the admission process.... and the alumn are usually the ones that can offer the best advice, having experienced it from all sides now...

do things change? sure they do- sometimes I can't believe how much things changed with the admission process just from 2009 to 2010, and now 2011....

but there are still expereinces that can be shared that are of value-

GA keeps his fingers on the pulse of "whats new" and takes the time to share with those interested...with the help of titles, you can read or scroll through...frankly, I admitt I am not too interested in the swimming stuff, but I can't wait 'till lacrosse gets underway and we get news of the Mids taking the Patriot League title again!!! :)

What I have also come to realize is that the USNA is really one big fraternity- and once in, always in.... frankly, I like knowing that there are wiser eyes keeping track of our plebes.... and demanding the best from them, vigilant that things don't venture too far off course! Having an active alumni is a blessing to any great institution, the USNA no exception- and perhaps one of the best testiments to the overall value of the entire experience!

As for the current mids- do keep posting- you keep all of us informed of the latest changes inside Bancroft, things we don't get to experience first hand, and insights of huge value and benefit to those thinking about throwing their hats into the ring....

and while I am at it, I love the posts from the other moms and dads out there, especially because I realize that we parents are not alone watching our sons/daughters take this journey either.... keeps us connected in some abstract way...

so a (once again) long-winded way to say "there's room for all!" ;)

Hmm, let's please just forget about age and all that stuff here, I don't care if someone is 99 years old and posts on this website...it is for everyone, HOWEVER:

It is a little overwhelming and is almost paralleling SPAM when 90% of the topics are articles that 90% of people reading do not care about...that's all

GA, just cut down on the articles...seriously

GA - keep them coming. Those I don't want to read, I skip. Just keep good headings and I will know what to open/close or ignore.

It's ok GA. My 90% read them. ;)The other 10% can avoid them.

Maybe we could compromise ... by having a specific thread for the sports teams, etc so that those interested could read there.

Let's call it the Great American Shoutout? Sorry ... ;) :p

I certainly enjoy reading about Navy sports, in fact, I oftentimes have navysports.com as the home page on my browser. You can read about all of the recent results and stats and links to the articles in the various newspapers are listed there as well. Perhaps, the link to navysports.com could be posted somewhere permanently on this forum. Those that want to visit could do so and the focus of the forum could return to helping candidates through the admissions process. Just a thought. I will admit that I do not visit frequently to check on questions, etc as there are so many posts to wade through these days.

I don't mind having the sports posted, but as someone else said, why not just in one thread. That way if you want sports related information you only have to go one place. I personally have other web sites that I check out to get sports and my "other" USNA news:

Sports:

I have to agree...too many posts to wade through. And this is from somebody who loves sports. I post occasional sports articles but this is too much.
